The Fletcher Keyserlei (www.fletcher.nl), is convenient to Centraal Station and even more so to the bus from Brussels (two short blocks; the bus passes it before it stops). It’s on van Ertbornstraat 10 right off the Keyserlei. This is about a 15-20 minute walk from the historic section of town, including the cathedral and the Grote Markt. It’s a modern building without much character, and that describes the hotel well. I got a good rate (50 EUR, no breakfast) on www.bookings.be. The rooms are quite large, albeit simply furnished, and the services of the hotel are basic; there is no data port in the room, but there is a refrigerator. Hotel staff is friendly. There are restaurants nearby and food markets about two side streets toward town on the Keyserlei. Breakfast at the hotel was not included in my rate - and was 12.50 EUR, so I chose other options. The hotel is nondescript, but perfectly acceptable for touring. The only problem I had at the Keyserlei was when I took a shower the following morning. The bathtub had no anti-skid provisions and I went down the moment I stepped in, pulling the shower curtain rod with me, so be careful.
