There must be something more honest in the area

I came and stayed because it was getting late and snowy. I was given a lower rate to stay than I had to pay. I had also found that I, one single woman, had paid more than an entire family of four. As a single woman I was given a room in the most distant add on, still under construction, with no ice machine, no security and so badly build that I asked for an extra blanket and still had to keep the heating on high, even though it was loud. The wind came around the window and door. You can have two cups of coffee, brewed by yourself. Anything else is more expensive, and lower quality, than in New York CIty. Free internet means your own computer, unprotected so that all the spam can get you later. Anything else is charged for by a minute- not even the cheapest Motel 6 is that greedy. The pool is unguarded, over-crowed and we were run off by a bunch of kid in plastic boats. The women's changing room has one toilet and two showers. Piles of wet, dirty towel filled it. Pools of dirty water marked the floor. It was as disgusting as possible but as many of the women have to drive to their rooms, they have to change somewhere. Three different people tried to call me- two never got through, the third one did by staying on both the cell and the landline while I was making the switchboard to admit I was in the given room. I understood while that was after I was billed three dollars a minute for call from UT to CA. Complaining is useless. The entire place is evidently the original Inn with thin building added for extra profit. Profit is all what's there.

An offensive eye-sore

Let's get the good out of the way: it's the closest hotel to Bryce Canyon, and about 45 minutes from Zion. If your plans are to spend a lot of time in both parks, location is excellent, and the drive in on Rte. 12 striking. However, what Best Western has chosen to do with this historic property located on some of the most beautiful land on earth is turn it into a charicature of Americans at their worst. The food at both restaurants resembles, at best, what you'd find at some "Cowboy American" dive somewhere in Europe run by someone who's never spent a day in the US. Nothing was fresh, local, or cooked anything less than to an utter crisp at both restaurants. What makes it worse is that, since there's nothing else around, you have to wait in line for your bad food. The rooms and hallways smelled like old mold. The staff ranged from some scattered local teenagers to a slew of Moldavian immigrants who were practically working 24/7 and looked very unhappy all the time - labor practices, anyone? The gift shop was mostly knick-knacks instead of offering locally made products. At least someone paid close attention to the book section, as the selection of hiking and outdoors books were excellent. If I were to do this again, I'd inquire as to the lodges within the parks, or stay closer to Zion and drive to Bryce. You should do the same and avoid this sham.

Bad apple

After being treated VERY rudely by a front desk clerk, we left only to discover that nothing is open in Bryce off season. We returned at 8:30 PM. Even at that hour we waited 45 minutes to be seated for dinner, and there weren't even any busloads of tourists! But the foodserver was very nice. Perhaps the front dest clerk was just one bad apple, but she sure tainted our experience. We couldn't wait to leave.

One bad apple?

"After being treated VERY rudely by a front desk clerk, we left only to discover that nothing else is open in Bryce off season. At 8:30 PM we had to wait 45 minutes for dinner in the restaurant and there weren't even any busloads to blame; we were finally seated with a very nice but exhausted food server. Don't plan to stay in Bryce off season - it isn't worth the aggravation!"
