I can''t say enough good things about this inn. Innkeepers David McFarlane and Ken Hasset, in addition to being very charming English and Irish blokes, have a very smart approach to their b & b. After riding the wave of internet start-ups and getting out before the crash, David and Ken decided to change paths altogether and renovate a Victorian house in Provincetown. Well-traveled themselves, David and Ken tried to think of everything they would want in an accommodation, and set about to provide it. I think busy, tech-savvy 30-somethings who stay here will be in heaven, as I was: there''s free internet access! You can set up voice mail if you like. These are not necessarily amenities every traveler is looking for during a getaway, but it''s nice to know they''re there, just in case. If you''re like me, a few days without internet access can provide a certain anxiety that makes a vacation hard to enjoy.
Rather than feeling constrained by period decorations, Ken and David had the rooms fitted with comfortable and luxurious modern furniture, made very appealing with Asian accents and lovely Medditerranean blue tiling in the bathrooms. The floors have been well-insulated so that you don''t hear people stomping around above you. There are umbrellas in a stand by the door in case you''re heading out in a shower. You are given a key to a street-side gate entrance which makes your comings and goings more discreet if you so choose. And-there''s a beautiful common area with a hottub and sauna, as well as lots of comfy lounge chairs for hanging out and relaxing. There are sodas in the fridge available free to guests at any time. They really have, as you see, thought of everything.
I''m pleased to report that I found breakfast at the inn to be a cut above standard b & b fare, with a delicious cheese and vegetable quiche as the highlight. Guest may eat indoors or outside in the common area.
The guests are a comfortable mix of gay and straight, and I found chatting with people over breakfast to be more enjoyable than it sometimes is at b & b''s--they seemed a hip, sophisticated lot.
The location of The Carriage House is perpidicular to Commercial Street, so you get the quiet with easy access to the heart of Provincetown.
I give this inn my highest recommendation.
