I am surprised at one of the other reviews. I enjoyed my stay and many guests there were repeat customers. Several guests were there on business in Quito and liked the central location, as well as the relaxed but professional atmosphere. As it is near both a police station and the American Embassy, it is both secure and quiet. It is a colonial style sprawling building, run by a lovely and helpful family. The rooms are well appointed, as are the bathrooms. It is not new, so don't expect gleaming modern facilities, but everything works! There is a dining room with good food and a fully equipped computer room. The place has a warm, friendly ambiance helped by its laid-back hosts. I recommend this hotel without reservation.

We loved Hotel Los Alpes. It had a warm and eclectic feel to it, nice people, and great food at the restaurant. It was a wonderful place to come "home" to between excursions to Napo Wildlife Center and the Galapagos Islands.

I found this hotel to be old, stuffy, and overpriced. There are so many unique, sunny, clean, and comfortable boutique hotels in Quito, and I was really not impressed with this hotel. The carpet was threadbare, the bed was old and saggy, the decoration in the room was nonexistent, and the whole place had a distinct musty smell to it.

It is suffice to say that this hotel is a gem. We found it by chance. Many of the other guests were repeat customers from the US who were also enthusiasts; one chap had been here five times!

The prices are modest by European and US standards and seem pretty average or low for Quito. We paid around $70 per night for three of us. We had a family room, which was actually two lovely bedrooms, and our own bathroom. The owners look after your luggage if you want to go elsewhere for a few days and made a lovely job of laundering our clothes when necessary.

They have a couple of regular taxi drivers who they trust and who charge modest fees for day trips to places like Otavalo. By the way, the hotel paid for the taxi to collect us from the airport; he was there waiting for us and it took only 10 minutes to get to the hotel. We felt they looked after us.
