Best Things About the Resort:

Resort Experience:
The resort was still being reconstructed from the results of the 2004 hurricanes. As a result, many amenities were missing. Housekeeping service was good, but attitudes among many staff were fair to poor. There were several folks who were upbeat and tourist-friendly, but more who weren't.

Best Things Nearby:
There was snorkeling, an international bazaar, the Isle of Capri Casino, and the Port Lucaya Marketplace.

Best Things About the Resort:
The view from the rooms, the beach, and the friendly people were the best things.

Resort Experience:
We arrived on Super Bowl Sunday and enjoyed a party on the beach with a big-screen TV sponsored by the Royal Bahaman police while dancing to the local music. We stayed on the 12th floor, which gave us a tremendous view of the beach and island. There is plenty to do on the premises, and most things were open. The rooms were clean, and I didn't notice any smells leftover from the hurricanes.

The resort had just gone through a face-lift within the past few months. We stayed in a beautiful one-bedroom room. We had a shower in one bathroom and a Jacuzzi sized tub in the other. We had a view of the marina from our room. Some of the rooms were being worked on, so noise pollution was somewhat of a problem.

There is a tennis court, ping-pong table, and gorgeous pool! The resort is right near the beach and there was a small straw market on the beach. Make sure you bargain! The beach is calm and gets kind of full on some days. The tide is low on most days so the water isn't very deep. If you want rest and relaxation, stay here in Freeport. And make sure you go talk to Hattie!

The beach!

Best Things About the Resort:
Large, attractive studio apartment with beautiful view from the balcony.

Resort Experience:
Xanadu is still being renovated, but I didn't talk with anyone who was not having a good time. I believe the timeshare rooms must be completed and they are lovely.

The timeshare staff is friendly and very helpful. Hattie was a delight. I took the timeshare tour just to see what is happening. I had a bacon, eggs, grits, and toast breakfast with Ed, who was very knowledgeable about the points system. I received two T-shirts, a bottle of rum, and a $25 gift certificate for the on-site dining room. I was pretty clear that I wasn't going to buy, but everyone stayed just as friendly.

The recreational staff was fun and offered games and prizes on the beach every day (their comments were not appropriate for children, though!). The Monday night welcome party was GREAT fun -- as many Bahama Mamas as you could drink, conch fritters, and meatballs. We played a game with Timmie and Freddi, and then Steve took over with karaoke. He had a great voice and encouraged all of us to participate. It was one of the best times I've ever had at a timeshare welcome party!

Beach chairs cost $2 a day. Some days, I just took my beach towel (provided by the resort) and lay on the sand -- such comfortable sand!! The lunch at the beach restaurant was good -- fried conch, fried grouper, hotdogs, hamburgers, grilled cheese, crab cakes, etc. It was not too expensive if you don't add the $5.75 Bahama Mama to it!!

Best Things Nearby:
There is not much nearby. A two mile walk will get you to the International Bazarre and public transportation.

Best Things About the Resort:
Private beach that has two bars (one new for night time), vendors, and water sports right on-site.

Resort Experience:
This resort, at one time a five-star, is now under restoration. I read a lot of bad reviews due to the contruction. It did not bother me because I was already aware of this. I am curious to know how it will be when it is done. Ask for a beach view room. We had a marina view and it was not bad, but I wish we could have seen the beach better.

Don't be shocked by the service. The Bahamians are laid back and not very customer savvy, at least not what I'm used to. There were some very helpful people, but most were just relaxed unless they were trying to sell you something.
