Sun City Cabanas

Sun City has four hotels ranging from the luxurious Palace of the Lost City Hotel to the family-oriented, economy lodging of the Sun City Cabanas. We stayed at the Sun City Cabanas which consists of motel-like buildings. There is a gigantic swimming pool behind the registration building and plenty of umbrella chairs on the lawn surrounding it. We saw many children during our stay due to the Kamp Kwena kids program offered at the resort. The Cabanas also caters to corporate events. Coincidentally, we saw representatives from my wife's company setting up for some type of event while we were waiting in the lobby for our room to become available.

We had a comfortable room at the Sun City Cabanas with features that included tile flooring, a refrigerator, and a very large closet to name a few. Besides the satellite channels on the television, there was also a channel that continuously runs a description of all the daily events and activities happening throughout Sun City. Our "double bed" consisted of two twin beds that were pushed together. We had a decent-sized bathroom but the water pressure from the shower was very powerful. I never did figure out how to adjust the shower head and shower door so that I would not end up with puddles on the floor after showering.

The main dining room at The Cabanas is located at the registration building. It is a pavilion that gives you an open-air feeling. The only meal we ate here was breakfast. It was included with our stay. The food was good but I couldn't get over all the birds. They seemed to know when breakfast was almost over and would begin to flock the place. They were on and under the chairs and tables. On our last day, I even saw a bird land at the buffet table and start eating out of the cereal bins. I was done with this place after I saw that. Fortunately, there are plenty of other places to eat at Sun City other than The Cabanas.

In addition to the large swimming pool, there is a man-made lake behind the property on which water activities such as parasailing, paddle boating, and jet skiing are offered for a fee. Twice per day, there is a free 30-minute boat ride around the lake. It is first-come, first-serve so get there 20 to 30 minutes before departure. It was an enjoyable cruise with soothing music and brief narration of the history and future plans of Sun City.

Overall, The Sun City Cabanas offers nice, standard rooms and many activities to keep visitors entertained. The majority of the guests seemed to be families with children, due to the activity programs for kids. The amount of children at this property could be a turn-off for those looking for quiet relaxation.

The luxury accommodation makes you feel like royalty. Great views of the lush gardens leading to the lake and Waterworld. Very close to a variety of international cuisine restaurants.

The most relaxed and casual of all Sun City's hotels, the Sun City Cabanas opens onto lush gardens leading down to the lake and Waterworld. The Sun City Cabanas has a total of 380 rooms. The Sun City Cabanas are built on two levels with rooms on the ground floor and first floors. The rooms are located in seven "blocks" situated around the main reception and restaurant area.
