Stay away from this place!

This place is the most overpriced, overrated, and delabidated place on the beach. The wood is rotting and the steps to the rooms are dangerous. I slipped each time I climbed them and fell from the 3rd steo to the bottom. I injured my hip badly and was in pain for the rest of my trip. What's worse, I reported it to security and the front office and was met with indifference. No corrections were made to help the problem, when all it would have taken were some mats to prevent slipping. The bar is a joke. The locals keep the barkeeper busy so service is terrible. The locals usually turn the kids loose while the drink, the one without kids try to panandle or sell some junk so they can drink. It didn't take me long to find a good bar just down the beach. The pool is a cheap plastic model that isn't worth jumping in. This place is one of the pricier along the beach. After seeing some of the others, I felt totally ripped off by the price and the accomodations. Not to mention the fact that I am still sore and have a very large bruise on my hip. Someone is going to get hurt or worse at this place in the future. It isn't cheap to fly and stay at Ambergris Caye. Just don't make the same mistake by wasting your money here.

Great Place

We originally booked two separate standard units for 2 adult couples. We were a little disappointed that the view and breeze was blocked by the lovely landscaping in front of our ground floor unit. After two nights we were able to change to an upstair deluxe unit for not additional charge since we were all in one unit then. The rooms are clean. Some appliances are not great in the standard rooms. The towels need replaced as they have holes in them. The beds were ok. The windows don't close too well and you hear a lot of road noise if you are in one of the back buildings. Monkeybites cafe was ok. Service was terribly slow and food ok. It was very small and hot. We went across the street to Georges Kitchen most mornings for breakfast and it was great. The staff was all very accomodating. There was one issue about using the office phone for local calls but that was resolved by management. It is a little far from town for us to walk but we always rent a golf cart anyway. The thing that brings us back to San Pedro (this is our 5th trip) is the people. No where else are the locals and tourists so friendly. There are no strangers...only new friends. Hotel could use updating but they are trying.

Great place to chill out

Ambergis Caye is a great place to relax, take a walk or run on the beach, and get to know the locals. Our Condo was not in the middle of town, but close enough to walk to for dinner or activities. It has a kitchenette and grocery stores are close by if needed. You can rent a golf cart if you want to get you from point A to point B. Scuba diving is good, but I have seen better. Prices are comprable to here in Texas. You can take day packages for a number of activities. Overall, it was a great vacation.

Wanted a low key relaxin beach front stay, found it. Do your homework, make local flight reservations before you leave home by internet on Maya Air or Tropic Air. We chose Tropic Air, flights leave every hour for San Pedro from BZE, about a 15-20 minuite flight right into the middle of town. Pack light, and walk to the hotel, its only 10 mins/ 1/4 mile from airstrip. The hotel is nice and quiet, rooms are large, but beware of low or NO water pressure at times, beds a little hard but our room had 3. Most things in San Pedro are closed on Sunday so prepare. Not the best beach for swimming but they have a dive shop there that will take you out to great dive or snorkeling spots, or kick back in a beach front hammock all day with drink in hand. The people working here are very helpful and very nice. There isnt much here other than peace and quite, take advantage of it. Walk north along the beach 1/4 mile and eat at the Bluewater grill, its not only good but one of the few restaurants open most times for breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Exellent. The staff was helpful, courteous & readily available. Canucks is like something from a Hemenway novel...can't beat the atmosphere. Monkey Bites is a wonderful little cafe. Best of all was Ocean Adventures. Clinton & his crew took care of all our outings with a personal care I have not seen anywhere else I've been.
