Food was 5 Star Service 5 star Grounds 5 star Drinks 4 star...only because they were a little warm. Room 3 Star...Air conditioning never got cold. Room was across from the loud noise of the generator. TV remote didn't work. No elevator. Staff 4 star...only because some guys were bugging me to go to a presentation. But I will return or as my governor says, "I'l be back."

I would go back

I went to casa marina with a group 12 of us. IF i was just with 1 friend i dont know how much id like it. The grounds were beautiful, the pools the jacuzzi the palm trees it was outstanding. At night they had activites for all kinds shows, karaoke, bond fire, IT was great with so many of us. The beds were hard one actually was broken. the bathroom reminded me of a campground bathroom. and the tv had a mind of its own. The AC would turn off when u left the room so when u came back it was a little hot, but i will add at night i wasnt hot sleeping. The food was decent you just had to figure out what to eat and what not to eat. ( but thats most buffets anyway), NOW i will add. I would go back in a heart beat. But i am a camper which makes me ok with the room, If that doesnt bother you then its the best bang for your buck. IF a luxery room is what your priority is its not the place for you. PS.3 floors high no elevators, stay on the 1st or 2nd floor.

dont take the shopping excusion, they take you to their cousins junk jewelry shop. kinda scary. swim with the dolphins, it is wonderful. as for the hotel, for the money,it is worth it. the country is extremely poor and beggars are like the poparatsy (sp?). rent a craig craft...much fun. tv did not work even though complained 3x. AC was maginal. enjoy

Great Property, Good Location, Fair Food, Poor Service

We stayed at the Casa Marina Resort (Beach Side). The property of the resort is beautiful, from the pools, to the beach, to the landscaping, to the palm tree hammocks and the open air dining. I expected the waters of the Dominican to be similar to that of a place like St. Martin or St. Thomas, calm, blue and warm. However, the Casa Marina Beach being on the Atlantic side is on the colder side (but refreshing) and there are fairly massive waves. I was pummelled by two separate waves and one poor lady lost her dentures due to a wave. (LOL) The rooms are simple, yet clean. You will likely find little ant-like bugs in your room (I think they eat the plaster), but they are no where near the bed, they don't bite, and if you ignore them, they will ignore you. I have a feeling you would see these little bugs at ALL the resorts in the Dominican. The food was decent, although do not bother going to the Mexican Ala Carte (it was not good), but the Italian is okay and the seafood restaurant is very good. The activites were fun, although I was there to enjoy the sunshine and the beach. The entertainment (production shows) were surprisingly good. Great dancers, good lighting, high energy! Only Complaint: The service (not just the hotel), is, lets call it, slow. We could not check in until an hour after the check-in time because our room was'nt clean yet. No one in this country seems to know anything about the business they are working in. Example, the women running one of the tour desks knew nothing about the excursions. And speaking of excursions, ask how long the travel time is for your excursion. Travel was 3hours each-way for ours.

Just came back from a 4 day trip. It was great! The natural beauty, there are no words to describe. The rooms can be a little more up to date, but who really spends the day in their rooms on a vacation. The beds were great and the shower even better, to me that's all that matters. The only thing I didn't like is the bars closes at 11:00 pm. Afterwards it's a cash bar. The best thing to do is go out to the shops close by, buy a couple of bottles of liquor and bring it back to the hotel. It's cheaper and better quality drinks. The shops outside of the hotel, the vendors try to rip you off, the store in the hotel is much better priced. Just an example, a suvenier I bought outside they wanted to charge me starting $450 of their money, then came down all the way to $250. At the store the same exact item I got for $85 pesos. I am already booking my next stay for 6 months from now.
