When arriving, we had high expectations for the hotel. Our room was upgraded to an ocean view suite free with an amazingly comfortable king sized bed. The staff was friendly and the overall atmosphere was very nonchalant. There wasn?t much to do in the area (ie Port Lucaya). On-site pools were very nice and the two infinity pools were breath taking. Most places include tip with the tab thereby allowing the workers to slack off. We felt very safe in the area with a police station across the street . Overall, if you want a relaxing vacation to lay on the beach/pool with a good book, this is your spot. The hotel is known by the locals to be the best and from our experiences they are correct. Also, take the snorkeling trip! It?s the best money well spent. Finding authentic Bahamian food is a challenge in the area so try the conch chowder at Zorba?s. Our review is based on the off season (200 out of 5000 rooms occupied).
Better Value Places to Stay..........

Westin Grand Bahama is in the same area as the Sheraton and Pelican Bay. Both hotels were nice and cost less. Food across the street at the market place was much more reasonable than at the hotel and there were many places to choose from.
DON'T under any circumstances pay extra for the "Marina View" since you'll need binocular's to see it and it's very small and not even part of the Westin. Only the Ocean view would be worth paying more for.
In town the International Market is mostly closed from the hurricane 3 years ago, but the "Caribbean Island Party and Sports Bar" on the corner has the best "Ribs / Fried Chicken / Fried Conch and Fries" Baskets than anyplace around.......and prices were very reasonable......$9 to $13.00. THIS IS A DEFINATE TO TRY..........
Not much else to do in Freeport since most of the places are still closed or destroyed from the hurricanes of 3 years ago...........and from the rate that it looks like they are recovering, I wouldn't go back for at least 5 more years!

The best vacation spot. Relaxed, friendly environment and the beach is extraordinarily clean and constantly warm. Pool is excellent and staff is friendly and overly accomodating.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin for our 5th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful experience. I was a little nervous going to Freeport about the room and its cleanliness; however, the Westin put all my worries away. The rooms were nice, the views ok, room service prompt, and the pools and beach were fabulous. The only item that was a little bothersome was the hotel food prices, but we just never ate in any of them. The hotel food is VERY expensive, but you can eat across the street in the Lucaya Marketplace for a much better price and a larger variety. Another positve about this resort is that everything is in walking distance or directly on the resort property (casino, beach, pools, restaurants, water sports, boat rides and shopping). There is no need to even rent a car or taxi you are in your own little paradise get a way. Lastly, if you need to use the internet for any reason bring your laptop (free in room use) because if you use the hotel systems they are not compatible with any of the US websites. They are still using Internet 5.0 and 6.0 and all websites need at least 7.0, I got browes incxompatibility errors when trying to access any of the normal sites that I would use at home in the US. Enjoy your trip!

This was one of our favorate vacations. The hotel was great and the staff was even better. It was very relaxing. The mall across the street was a nice place to go to eat and shop. We also liked the casino on the property. Highly recommend for a relaxing vacation.
