Great Location

We spent our only night in Venice at Hotel Ala and would highly recommend it. The value is great compared to other hotels in the immediate vicinity. The location was perfect for us - it is a 2 minute walk from the Giglio vaporeti (water bus) stop; about a 30 minute ride from the train station. It is a very short (~5 minute) walk to St. Mark's Square - close enough for convenience, but with enough distance to feel a bit removed from the madness of the crowds. The room itself was very nicely furnished and clean; surely some of the rooms surely have nice canal views, though ours didn't. The front desk staff was very nice, spoke great English, and were very accomodating, allowing us a slightly early check-in. Breakfast was standard, but plentiful. Hotel Ala didn't have the feel of a chain hotel. We'd highly recommend this hotel in every respect, but especially for its great location from which to explore Venice.
