The place talks the talk but does not walk the walk. I arrived late and was very tired. The staff at the desk was not very helpful. The place is like puzzle or rat maze. I was directed to my room on the third floor and could not find it. The directions from the desk and the markings on the wall did not give adequate directions to the room. I had to lug my luggage all the way down to get better instructions on how to get to my room. The place is incredibly old and the floors creaked everytime someone walked through the corridor. There is no free internet. You have to buy a card from a vending machine which turned out to be very cumbersome. I went to the restaurant one afternoon and ordered tea which came in a glass and had to ask for a cup. When I asked for more hot water I was told that I would have to be charged for another cup of tea. My last day I decided to have breakfast at the restaurant, and everyone was having a continental breakfast. No one ever came up to me so I assumed it was included in the room. When I checked out, they wanted to charge me 25 euros for the breakfast. I protested and they said ok only 13.50. I was charged 25 euros on my credit card statement.

Although multiple-guest rooms were available, my boyfriend and I opted for a private room. There were two single beds (to our dismay) and the room was newly decorated (the whole place was under reconstruction). Our tiny window looked out on the quaint suburbs of Amsterdam. While we were there, the Netherlands film debut of 'Notting Hill' was held there. We even got a glimpse of Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley!!
