Small but Effective

We stayed in June, 2009. Room was very small. But, it was adequate for our needs. The new Cavaltra Bridge within walking distance of the train station takes you to Piazza Roma. The hotel is approximately 4 bridges away. WARNING: The Cavaltra Bridge is difficult to manage with suitcases. But, two 40 year olds were able to manage getting across. 10-15 minute walk from train station.
Hotel staff was pleasant and helpful with inquiries. It is quite a walk to Rialto and San Marco but the water bus (Vaporetto) stop isn't far. We walked to the major sites several times and enjoyed it...even though there are LOTS of bridges.
Breakfast was nice (the standard meats, fruit, coffee, etc) and free. Dining room opened up to a nice courtyard with additional seating.
Internet access is for a fee. We skipped it.
Again, our room was very small but we weren't there much other than to sleep. The convenience of the train station (and the bus depot is right there too) outweighed our needs for a larger room. It was clean, comfortable and fine.
The hotel offers a water taxi to Murano but, as we understand it, the glass maker arranges it so you are whisked right into the glass making session and sales pitch. We took the water bus instead and wandered Murano at our own leisure. We felt it was the right choice.
If money is an issue, along with proximity to trains/busses then I would recommend this hotel. We found the bridges to be easier to deal with than loading luggage onto a crowded water bus.
Great hotel for access to water bus and bus station

Just one small bridge away from plaza roma (bus station). If you can pull your suitcase up and down eight steps, this is the place to stay. Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast in a charming pink room, air conditioned, and the smallest elevater I've ever seen. We spent one night here before walking with our luggage to board our cruise ship. We will definately stay here again on our next trip to Venice.
A Venice gem

We loved this hotel. Great location, far away from the crowds and noise but convenient to transportation to the airport and St. Marks. Room was large, charming and exceptionally clean, as was the bathroom. Staff was extremely pleasant and made us feel very welcome. There are several restaurants that are located around the corner from the hotel. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We stayed at this hotel for two days during our honeymoon. This hotel is located right on a quiet canal and is next to the Piazzale Roma, which is the arrival point for buses and trains into Venice. We had a huge room with a very spacious bathroom. It was clean and very quiet and our windows overlooked a charming courtyard. Breakfast was free and included yogurt, eggs, a variety of meats, cheeses, and breads, pastries, and several juices, as well as coffee and hot chocolate. We were catching a cruise ship and the hotel is located within a 2 minute walk of the location where the cruise ship shuttle buses pick up passengers, so we didn't have to haul our luggage very far at all. The bed was a little hard but that was our only complaint. The location is great if you are catching a cruise or arriving by bus or train. We were very happy with the hotel.
Hotel Olimpia

The Olimpia hotel is quite near the train station, one stop on the Vaporato. The hotel rooms and public areas are newly remodeled and is top quality, our room was quite beautiful with Venetian furniture and silk wallpaper.. the bathroom was very nicely appointed. Breakfast was included, which was typical, and very good. They can make you an American type breakfast if you require that. The only drawback was that the main Venice bus terminal is right across the canal. From about 7:00 AM until 6:00 PM there are hundreds of buses and people there, making it quite noisy. We were gone during those hours for the most part, but in the morning it was less than ideal. Gondolas pass right beneath your window. Restaurant in the same building was OK, but expected better.
