This hotel was a pleasant surprise. We made a fairly late reservation here, which went off without a hitch. The plan was to use Aix as a quiet rest-stop after visiting Venice, and before joining friends in Languedoc. The hotel was clean, modern, comfortable and quieter than I had dared to hope. The staff found us a short running path by the river I did not bring a laptop (a mistake, but I'll know better) and they looked up train schedules for the next day because what we had was unclear . The manager called the local Catholic church to find Easter mass times, pulled out a map, and showed us how to get there on public transport. We had a minor problem with the shower, a staff person checked it, they moved our things, apologized and offered any number of compensations, which I declined. We were exhausted and ate the hotel restaurant, dinner was very good and average prices(no gouging), the breakfast was unbelievable.
This is a French chain. They don't have non-smoking rooms, they have a small staff, the bathrooms are elevated above the floor to trip the unwary at night. The elevator is the size of a large phone booth. Many French families were staying there, nice pool, small play area , fairly large grounds, easy to bus or walk to the center of town, which is lovely.
This is between the TGV station and the Aix-Ville station. I would suggest a cab if you have little kids. The pool was nice but it was less than 40 F so we did not try it. Not Provencal rustic, but French. Comfortable, clean, good food , modern but not American.
