Description: We left Hotel Mozart and rolled our luggage to the
Royal Windsor Hotel which was just up the street and around the corner. Since it was the Christmas season, the lobby had beautiful Christmas decorations.
The registration desk always seemed busy during our stay but fortunately, there were normally several staff members working the desk. Check-in was quick and easy. We were surprised that our room was ready so early in the day (11 AM).
Our room at the Royal Windsor was more along the lines of the type of rooms to you would find at chain hotels such as Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton, etc. In fact, the Royal Windsor belongs to the Warwick hotel chain. The room was spotless. Our bed was comfortable. The TV provided many English-speaking channels as well as a multitude of other languages. In-room internet access (LAN) is free. The only annoyance we encountered during our stay was the harassment of the wake-up call. We received four additional wake-up calls every few minutes after I had answered the first one.
We found the front desk staff to be accommodating. They speak English fluently in addition to several other languages. The concierge was helpful in providing directions and following up on tour reservations we had made. The hotel provides currency exchange but I would recommend using one of the nearby ATMs to get a better exchange rate.
One of the features we really enjoyed about the Royal Windsor was its location. Exiting the rear of the hotel puts you at the Grand Place where you can enjoy the majestic old buildings, shops, restaurants, and the outdoor Christmas Market which was in full-swing during our visit. Exiting the front of the hotel and walking a block puts you at the Gare Centrale train station. This convenience allowed us to take the metro during our evening outings and to take the 25-minute inexpensive train ride to the airport when it was time to fly back to the States. Other attractions that are in walking distance from the Royal Windsor are the famous Mannequin Pis statue and the Mont des Arts section of the city where you’ll find several museums.
The hotel has a restaurant. We were considering eating breakfast there until we saw the price. It converted to almost $40 per person. Instead of eating there, we walked up the street and got pastries from one of the eateries inside the Gare Centrale train station.
We were very pleased with our stay at the Royal Windsor Hotel. If you are considering a stay there, I would recommend that you compare the rates. During the time of our trip, the hotel’s weekend rate was nearly one-third the cost of its weekday rate.
