Not worth the money

We stayed on the 6th floor of this hotel, and the street noise was very loud. The people at the reception desk spoke very little english, and were really of little help. The first floor and top floors were nice, but the rooms in between were very small. We reserved a non-smoking room, and were given a smoking room. When we complained about this, the people at the front desk didn't really seem to care. Needless to say we ended up staying in a smoking room for 6 nights - yuck! The location of this hotel is nice, 1 block from the beach. The hotel said they could catch us a cab to the airport for $60 Real, don't do it, catch one yourself and get a ride for $40 Real.

Pros: Very close to beach (1/2 block walk), hair dryer and refrigerator in room, clean, good service, some people at front desk spoke some english, have non-smoking rooms, great selection at breakfast, close enough to Cantagalo subway stop to walk (and the subway/bus system can get you just about anywhere) Cons: Room was on the smaller side, traffic noise at night, we asked for a non-smoking room (8th and 9th floors) but was not given one (don't know if this was a language barrier issue) - but fortunately the room did not smell at all like smoke, but sometimes the hallway outside the room did.

Long Distance Service Is a Scam

The hotel was decent, but the room wasn't near as nice as the photos on their website would have you believe. Great location though, and the service was fine. The main problem I had was that I made a few short calls using the long distance service posted on the room telephone.

Over Priced and Loud

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon the first week was OK. The following week they were doing construction with absolutely no regard for their guest. Chiseling and hammering at 8AM. After complaining they didn't stop. Then several months after returning from Brazil we came home to find out that our Master card information had been stolen by someone from the hotel staff. It was the only place that we used that particular card. Most places in Brazil only accept Visa.

Consider an apartment first!

I think this is a beautiful hotel and the staff was very helpful and friendly. However, the policies are very strict. There is a stiff charge for visitors. If one may consider having visitors, they should consider an apartment. Apartments are a much better deal.
