My husband and I just spent 4 nights at the Sheraton. Overall we had a very nice and relaxing vacation. I was a bit nervous before we left since I read so many poor reviews on the hotel, but as long as you are not expecting a 5 star hotel you will be fine.
We had a very easy check-in and the room was a standard hotel room, it was clean, although had a small bathroom. It was fine since all we did was sleep in the room.
The location is great! We spent the majority of our time at the Westin's pools. It seemed to have less kids, so it was quieter, and they had nicer lounge chairs. I did not think it was worth the price to stay at the Westin when you can just use all their pools and beaches while staying at the Sheraton. We had no trouble finding chairs each day and moved around the different pools and beaches throughout the day. We did not eat at any of the restaurants at the Sheraton or Westin. For each meal we walked across the street to the Port Lucaya Marketplace. Meal prices were reasonable. For dinners we ate at La Dolce Vita, a little more pricey but a good meal, we ate at Le Med for a breakfast and a dinner which was very good. We also ate at Pisces. They had good pizza, but this was the only place we encountered slow and unfriendly service. For drinks we went to Rum Runners - Corona's were 2 for $5.
Overall it was a very relaxing vacation and I would recommend it as a less expensive alternative to some of the other islands. The pools and beaches were beautiful and everything was in walking distance.
Spend a little more and stay at Westin

My husband and I took our 4 children (ages from 9 through 15) here during our spring break. Huge mistake. The first day there was a huge population of college spring breakers. Since the drinking age is 18 here, they tended to be obnoxious and loud. There are a few things that really bother me about resorts, and my feeling is that if I am spending top dollars on a vacation, especially for 6 people, it has to be pretty good. This place is definitely not worth it at all. Let me start with the pool--dirty, with scummy junk floating by the sides and collecting in corners of the pool. The hot tub--was cold--all the time. It was never hot. The bar by the pool stunk like they never cleaned it. The towel huts were inconvenient. In my opinion, when you are at a resort, towels should be unlimited. When you check in, each person gets a towel card. In exchange for the towel card, at the towel hut you get a wristband which identifies you as a guest of the hotel. So far, so good. But in order to get dry towels, you must either turn in a towel card, or a wet, heavy, yukky towel. The last thing I want to do is carry around my wet towels, times six! On the beach, there are lounge chairs. However, they are locked up and you cannot get one unless you have a wristband. That's fine, but they take them away at 4 pm, when they lock the chairs back up. The rooms are cramped, the bathrooms too small, and don't be fooled by all the restaurants they advertise. Half of them are not even open. This trip was a disappointment, in spite of beachfront location.

It's not a 5 star, but you know that heading in. But, it's a great value and the beach and location are top notch. Rooms are fine. Clean. A little dated. Free internet access. My kids had a great time. Right across the street from Port Lucaya straw market. Lots of shops and restaurants. Would go back. Have stayed at the Westin next store too. Not worth the price difference in my opinion.
Ridiculously Expensive and Poor Service

I don't know if it's just the way of life in the Bahamas, but there is no standard for service there. You would expect better from a good hotel, but the service was extremely poor. I asked for clean towels once, and had to wait over 2 1/2 hours. The reasons for the wait were that "everyone wanted clean towels". Hard to believe. The key lime pie, charged at the exorbiant rate of $10+, was the size of a tennis ball cut in half. I can get something better from a high end steakhouse for that price. The accessibility of the business center is inconvienent. it is located in the Westin, next door, and is priced at $5 for 15 minutes. i guess they know how to wring money out of you.
However, the location was good, and the over accessibility of the bars and the beach made up for the inconviences caused by this trip.
Would Never Stay Here Again.

Old, musty, ugly rooms. Hotel and rooms definitely need a renovation. The pool was ok until I stepped over to the Westin. It was like night and day. Everything over at the Westin was upscale compared to the Sheraton. I felt like I was at a budget resort, I wanted to switch so badly. Did not try the restaurants at the hotel, way too expensive. Ate everynight across the street at Port Luycaya. Definitely recommend the Italian restaurant. Good quality food, great pizza and good prices.
