My husband and I decided to do a quick trip down to Freeport without kids. My husband is originally from the island and I lived there for a couple of years myself, so we are pretty familiar with the island, the people and the situation they are facing in the travel industry at the moment. We were very happy with the Sheraton on this trip. I think that the customer service at the hotel has improved. Everyone was friendly and helpful, not something you always get when visiting Freeport. We were actually just in Grand Bahama back in April with about 25 people but did not stay at the Sheraton. The hotel that we stayed at (I will not name) was terrible with their customer service, so it was a pleasant surprise to be so welcomed and cared for at the Sheraton Our Lucaya. The only thing that bummed me out was the pool with the waterslide was closed our entire visit. I did not ask why.
The resort is beautiful and well kept. The Westin side of the resort was really nice, I wish more people would take advantage of the Westin, it truely is a great resort.
You definately need to book ocean view when staying at the Sheraton, you really need that balcony to feel like you are in the Bahamas!
I would definately stay at the Sheraton again and I would recommend it to family and friends.

We were alittle skeptical when we decided to plan a destination wedding, we were not sure how it could be planned from so far away. We live in Pa, and decided on the Bahamas. After months, and months of searching for the perfect location, we settled on the Sheraton at Our Lucaya on Grand Bahama Island. We read through many different reviews, some bad, some good, but in the end it was best suited for us. We needed a hotel that could accomodate us, and the guests who would be attending our wedding. We also wanted an all inclusive hotel, so the Sheraton it was. After booking the trip we started finding reviews on the Sheraton, mostly bad reviews, saying how bad the food was, how the pool huts never had towels for the pool, problems with the air conditioning, no hot water in the bathroom, etc. We became very nervous about the experience us and our 15 other guests who were also booked at the Sheraton would experience. I am happy to say, we never ran into any of these problems. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we had nothing but pleasant experiences. We were there for our wedding, and were treated to an upgraded oceanview room(at no charge) , which was breathtaking. The locals were so friendly, everyone said hi! The food at the hotel was great, we were happy to find out when we arrived that there were actually 5 restaurants included in the all inclusive plan, our travel agent told us there would only be 3. We spent most of our nights at the Prop Club..I highly recommend this restaurant/bar. All 17 of us found ourselves out on the deck eating dinner, and having a few drinks each night. The staff at the Prop Club went out of their way for our large group each time we walked through the door, one waitress in particular, Dell, was the best waitress I had ever met in my life, she actually attended our wedding, she got along great with all of us, we were sad to leave her! I am so glad we took a chance on this hotel. The pool and beach were beautiful, never a wait for towels, always something to do. The only disapointment we found was 2 of the nonmotorized water sports that were included in the all inclusive package, in order to do the hobbycats, or windsurfing, you needed to take classes to learn how to do it if you were not experienced, one of the classes was $*, while the other was $*, we decided against it since we didn't want to take time out of our day to attend these classes, there were other things we could do. Basicaly we spent our days on the trampoline, kayaks, boogie boards, and did the snorkeling, these activites were alot of fun. And of couse they had motorized sports that could be done for a fee. There was something there for everyone. And the Sheraton itself, it felt so great everytime we walked through the door after being out in the hot sun, the air conditioning was better then any other hotel we had ever stayed in. We arrived in the Bahamas 4 days before our wedding, and had the best time of our lives. Our wedding day was better then either of us ever thought it could be. Reverend Woodside performed our ceremony, I highly recommend him, he went out of his way to make our day beautiful and special. If anyone is looking for a Minister to perform their ceremony, Reverend Woodside is the guy to talk to, we even received our professional video before we left the island, you can't ask for better service then that! All in all, this was the best decision we ever made, we will definitely go back to the Bahamas, and stay at the Sheraton. July is their off season, it was a great time to go, not too many people. We wanted to go back the second we got in the taxi and pulled away!

Its a good place to relax and just get away from the city. Is near to a marketplace very convenient. The hotel have ants problems so dont place food anywhere in the room. The breakfast has a lot of variarity, but is overprice.
I would go back tomorrow!!!

Our first night there, we were on the 2nd floor, so the ocean view was pretty limited due to the palm trees. One phone call to the front desk and we were promised to be moved higher the next day, which we were! From that point on, it was total paradise!!! My husband and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and his 50th birthday at the Westin, Our Lucaya. Unbeknownst to me, he had arranged for a vow renewal ceremony in the gazebo on the property!!! We were met by a photographer, who was wonderful! XYZ, from Events Planning and 2 others were our witnessess and we they even had a Reverend that performed the ceremony. I had a bouquet and they even had a boutineer for my husband! After the ceremony, we had a bottle of champagne with our "family". Unfortunately, we had to leave as we had dinner reservations at The Ferry House, which was also fantastic! The chef created a special soup for our anniversary and also sent out dessert for us to share. He was even kind enough to autograph the appetizers page of the menu for me to bring home as another keepsake of our anniversary! Definitely a place I would recommend for any special occasion or just a wonderful, relaxing vacation!!!!! I HOPE we can go back for either Christmas for maybe our anniversary again next year!!!!!
