Amsterdam in May

Exceptional location (for museums, dining, cafe's, shopping), wonderful staff, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere. Bottled water in the room somewhat expensive but plenty of near-by stores to take care of that. Would stay there again. Next door Indrapura restaurant (Indonesian cuisine) and down the block D'Antica (Italian cuisine) highly recommended. Rooms facing the square (Rembrandtplein) may be noisy for some due to trolley traffic but worth putting up with for the view and atmosphere. Tip: ask front desk to make reservations for your dining adventures.

Not the charming hotel you may think it is

Location is great. However, the last renovation of the hotel was maybe 1970. My 5th floor bath reeked of sewer gas, the single bed was uncomfortable; a 4 Star experience, no. And Schiller is not a great artist. There are better hotels for the money in Amsterdam.

The NH Schiller Hotel

My parents stayed at the Schiller when they came to visit us in February 2004. I got the room at a better price for them (than the hotel's listed prices) through Expedia.com.

The room was nice, although kind of basic (like most mid-level hotels in Europe). They stayed there a week and really enjoyed it. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet for an additional fee (around 15 Euros per person, I think). I ate breakfast with them two mornings, and it was pretty good. The service at the Schiller is great too.

I'd highly recommend it to others visiting Amsterdam. The hotel is really nice itself, decorated in art deco style, but the true benefit is its great location in the city. You're right in Rembrandtplein, which has lots of good restaurants nearby, and there are three trams that stop just 100 feet away from the hotel door, making getting around the city pretty easy.

The NH Schiller Hotel

We had a well-appointed double room with two queen beds, a minibar and coffee-making facilities in the room. A bath with shower and hair dryer. The room was very well furnished and clean. Our window overlooked the Rembrandt Square. It was noisy with it being the New Year and lot of tourists in town, but we did not mind it! The hotel houses wonderful examples of Art Nouveau and modernist pieces. The hotel is ideally situated to allow you to see all the highlights of this exciting city. The unique blend of traditional and contemporary is reflected in the hotel's interior. Brasserie Schiller in the Schiller Hotel is a classical Art Deco-style restaurant. The Brasserie serves traditional Dutch/French cuisine. Breakfast was included in the room rate of 180 Euros a night. It was a full breakfast buffet with cereals, muesli, croissants, a variety of breads and rolls, and cold and hot items to choose from. We could walk to all the sights from this central location. Very convenient! We did not find the need to rent a car. Public transportation and walking was enough!
