Description: The location of this hotel couldn’t have been better for us on our very first visit to Paris! It’s situated in a lively area with plenty of restaurants, bars, bookshops, and the usual souvenir shops that you’ll find near any tourist spots—Notre Dame is on the doorstep and so many other attractions are within easy walking distance.
The hotel is on a busy road junction, next to exit 3 of St Michel Metro/RER station (very convenient for CDG Airport and any Metro rides) but with double-glazed windows closed, noise isn’t a problem and air-conditioning keeps the room from getting too warm at night. Reception area access from the street is via a flight of stairs with no disabled access which may pose a problem for some potential guests. There is a small lift for access to the rooms—corridors to the rooms are quite narrow.
Room 52 is a perfectly adequate corner room on the 5th floor with a comfortable bed, plenty of storage space, a mini fridge that can store your own items as well as the mini-bar stock, and a small safe. TV is available with mainly French channels and CNN, which we only used to check out world news and the weather forecast for Paris! There are three long windows in this room, one facing Quai St Michel with a Seine view towards Pont Neuf and two more on Place du Petit Pont, leading on to Rue Saint-Jacques, with excellent views of Notre Dame and the Seine towards Pont de la Tournelle—perfect for a first trip to Paris!
All correspondence with Simona and Julie prior to our visit was very promptly and efficiently dealt with and our check in was hassle-free. We were always greeted with a pleasant smile by all of the reception desk staff and they were very courteous and helpful. They patiently tolerated our appalling attempts to speak French—although I think our efforts were appreciated—and replied to us in perfect English! The housekeeping staff, who work very hard at keeping the rooms clean, also greeted us very pleasantly when we met. Towels, complimentary soap, and shower gel are replaced daily.
Breakfast is available in the hotel at a cost of €7 and consists of croissants, crusty bread, orange juice, and coffee—there are plenty of other options very close by if you prefer to sit outdoors and watch Paris go by! There are no restaurant or bar facilities within the hotel but Le Notre Dame Bistro is situated directly below. After check-out the reception desk staff kindly held our luggage so that we could enjoy one last walk around before our trip back to the airport.
For those who are seeking out "real Parisian life" the area will probably not be for you but if you are a first time (or even a returning) visitor to Paris who wants a central location, preferably with a view, we would highly recommend this hotel.
