Really nice and convenient

  • June 6, 2009

Since this hotel was actually inside the airport between two terminals, I wasn't sure what to expect but it was actually very nice. The rooms were large and comfortable. Very clean and welcoming. The view from our room was literally the inside of the terminal so that wasn't great but it was interesting. We stayed 2 nights because of a cheap deal we could get through internet. We took train into Stockholm so that was convenient. It would have been cheaper to take a bus which also leaves from airport but opted for 20 minute express train rather than 45-minute bus ride. Nice fitness center. Free wireless in room. We didn't opt for breakfast and there were lots of choices in airport terminal.

Stuck in Arlanda? Could be worse. Especially if you take to the Radisson to rest up before your flight. It has a towering presence over the bustle of SkyCity--Stockholm's concessions and shopping inside the airport. Of course, you can always do what I have also done in the past--sleep on those incredibly comfy chairs in terminal.

Raddisson SAS Royal Viking

The best part about the Royal Viking is its location. It is next to the train station and across the street from the shopping district. It is a ten minute walk from the old streets of Gammla Stan.

The rooms were small and ordinary. The breakfast buffet was large and excellent. The lobby and inside courtyard was nice to look at but our room faced the street. The elevators required putting your room key in a slot before you could press the button for your floor. The elevators were often slow or not functioning. This was also true of the large automatic revolving doors that served as the main entrance to the hotel. The doors would often slow down to a crawl or stop altogether with people in them. They were unusual in design (plants were part of the door holder) but did not work all the time. We stayed here because it was part of the Collette tour package.

Now that we know more about the city, I would certainly look for a less expensive hotel about a mile from the city center. The metro could provide adequate transport.
