First trip to Belize/AMBERGRIS CAYE

Best pool on the whole island. Nice swim up bar and interesting bartender, named X to talk with. Activities are abundant right off the hotel dock. Other hotels are within walking distance and offer nice dining experiences. We happened to be at the Belizean Resort while their restaurant and room services were not available. This was not a pleasant thing, but we made do. We went to town and bought enough stuff to fill the frig and made our own coffee, breakfast, lunch and/or dinners when we didn't feel like walking to another resort or taking the "water taxi" to town. It should be known, that there are no golf carts to rent to take you to or from the resort. The road from town to the resort is so undeveloped, the rental services don't want their carts taken on the "road". You can rent a bike for 5 bucks a day and get around pretty well, but running to town to go shopping on bike poses a prob., if ya know what I mean. The water taxi is a neat thing running regularly, but it ain't cheap. It was $28.00 US for a roundtrip to town and back to the resort. We flew the MAYA Air from Intl. Airport to Ambergris Caye. It was worth the extra cost. We met couple that took the boat and they said it was slow, rough, crowded and made multiple stops. I think it cost us 164.00 roundtrip, because we paid cash. Cash gets you discounts on other things as well. We had fun, swam a lot, dived, and enjoyed the scenery. It is absolutely gorgeous, the people are nice and the fact everyone speaks English makes it a easy to communicate. We endured a power outage due to storm.

Belizean Shores great "rustic adventure" resort experience.

The Belizean Shores is a beautifully styled hotel with an excellent pool and a warm, helpful staff. Be warned that this is not a 5-star resort experience - I'm not sure Belize has these to offer. The hotel is on the North End of the island, which is fairly undeveloped, without a paved road - there is a dirt track wide enough for golf carts that you can take to town. If you want beautiful scenery and opportunities for snorkeling, ocean kayaking, and bike rides to town, this is a great place to stay, especially for the price. The pool is beautiful and well-designed with a bar set in the middle that you can reach from the water or by going over a bridge and staying dry. All the meals that we ate there were excellent, and Marva, the bartender at the restaurant was great fun to talk to while we ate meals. The scenery was beautiful, despite the fact that Hurricane Dean had just struck and Hurricane Felix was bearing down on Belize (but stayed South, thank heaven). Despite Dean having struck and the hotel being half-staffed, the grounds had been restored and we felt well cared for. Again - this is not a high-end resort with on-site massage or those types of amenities, but it is a beautiful place which provided ample opportunities to experience Ambergris Caye.

Nice place to visit

We enjoyed our room very much- large and spacious, and came with a kitchenette. The two biggest detractions against the hotel was the slow service of the staff and the fact that you have to water taxi from San Pedro to the hotel. At $15.00 per person for a round trip ticket, this can get pricey. You are away from the main bustle of San Pedro but at the same time you are away from the main bustle of San Pedro. There are not many restaurants near the hotel so the best option is to go to San Pedro.

Great relaxing atmosphere!

Belizean shores delivers--the condo was about 1000 sq feet, the restaurant is fine for a quick bite (not a special meal), and the management are very service-oriented.

Great Trip
