Better off staying at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach

  • August 6, 2007
  • Rated 3 of 5 by a traveler from Travelocity.com
If you go to Cabo, stay at the Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach (which is a much nicer, more modern hotel) and play at the Rose for a few days. The Rose itself is a nice hotel -- great spa, huge gym, lively pool. Yummy pool food, terrible restaurant food. The rooms leave much to be desired. All rooms have two "Mexican double beds" -- larger than a US twin, smaller than a US double. After asking four times, we got them to put the beds together for us, but there was still a weird lump in the middle. Staff was intrusive -- maids came in without knocking, and someone forced their way in to check the minibar one day despite the fact that I was in the shower. The rooms also do not have bathtubs (only showers) and the tv is tiny. There is no in-room internet, dvd or vcr. Several things in our room were broken -- the toilet leaked, the screen door to our balcony was broken, and the air conditioning worked intermittently. In addition, they replaced our tv stand/dresser while we were there, forcing us to take all of our stuff out of the drawers, and then the new furniture they put in had two broken drawers which were never fixed. The pool, while nice, had a high quotient of screaming babies. The access to Mendano Beach is a plus (its safe for swimming), but you are mobbed by vendors as soon as you set foot on the beach. Sunset is much nicer. It has four pools, large rooms with Queen or KIng beds and bathrooms with tub and shower. If I go back I will stay at Sunset and go to Rose for a day or two for the beach access and lively pool scene.

Fun!

Lovely hotel, great room. Two complaints, smokers and non-smokers are next door to eachother. It is a problem when someone lights up and your room fills with smoke. Room service is slow and there are not enough menus for each room. Pool is spectacular! Rooms were clean and well appointed. Buy breakfast and lunch fixings at City Club around the block.

Watch out for Lemon Rooms!

Our room here was horrible. While taking a shower, the hot water faucet fell apart and flooded the bathroom. It took two hours to fix, and we were not offered another room or any type of refund. The cold-water faucet on the bathroom sink did not work either. The mini bar/frig was not cold and finding ice around there is impossible. The food and drink prices are very high for average tasting food. The timeshare people on the property would interrupt your meals and activities, which started to become very annoying.

50th BIRTHDAY

We went for my 50th birthday. The hotel is great for many reasons. The location is close to everything, the beach is wonderful. The only bad comment we have about the rose is they try to get the time share sell right as you are checking in. But, we know from other travels, that this is becoming the "norm" for these places. You just have to be able to say no quickly.

My wife and I stayed here for the first time on advice from my inlaws. It was every bit as beautiful as they said. Service was impecable, and helped with all activity reservations.. Will definately stay here again.
