More Boom Boom Less "Spa" but still very nice

My husband and I stayed here in May 2009 for a week long prescripion of R&R. We definitly found our R&R but I must say that it took a little creativity on our part. The hotel certainly caters to an "all-inclusive" crowd who can't get enough of the (cheesy) entertanment activities and the endless amounts of alcohol. But we made the most of our trip and found a quiet, relaxing area of the beach (away from the "boom boom" music) where we went every day and practically had our spot all to ourselves. For all meals (the food is actually quite good) we ate at the restaurants, away from the buffet loving crowds (at no extra cost). The resort is somewhat isolated so its not as easy to get away and check out the real DR but we were able to get a taxi one day to check out Altos de Chavon and another day we were able to rent a car to truly explore the island. Don't get me wrong this is a great place to stay - the water is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful, the staff is very nice, the restaurants and outdoor patio furniture are suprisingly very chic, but if you are looking for a some "tranquilo" R&R you'll have to do a little extra work to find it. Lastly, (and this may be a deal breaker for some) - the walls are literally paper thin - so you will know your neighbors very well...we changed rooms a couple times, in effort to find some quiet, and the staff was very accomodating to do this but its worthwhile to note. If you do go, enjoy your time and we highly recommend the Lobster dinner on the beach and the Jungle Restuarant!
we loved it

Sept.30, 2008 just got back. Alot of remodeling going on. Our first room was in the old section and was not nice at all, smelly and old. Ask and received one of there oceanview rooms, it was perfect. The people are very friendly. All the resurants were not opened, food was only fair. You really dont have to convert money to peso's, everyone takes american money. Very important to fly into la romana, only 15min from hotel, alot of people flying into punta cana, which is a 2.5 hr trip. No room service. It wasnt very crowded, maybe due to construction. All indoor restaurants closed, so it was a little hot at times. You might want to buy any liquor in san jaun. We purchased some in la romana airport and going through san juan check was told we had to check it. We should have known. We just gave it away because we were not going to put it in our suitcase, due to the fact after trip over I did not reconize my suit case, it was so beat up (american airline). Plus it would have cost $25 more. Favorite drink there was the banana monkey. Overall we had a very relaxable, fun time.

This resort is spectacular! I cannot say enough about the friendliness of the employees. We slept soooo good in those comfortable beds! I'm in love with the entertainment team! Risa, Anita, Picachu, Miami, Leo, Andy, Pablo... We've been twice now, and the rooms were even more beautiful this time and the food was outstanding! Get the Ribeye at Seascape restaurant.
You will have even more fun if you get involved in all the beach/pool activities. I am so ready to go back. I left part of my heart there!

Everyone was so nice and polite willing to help you in any matter that you may have. We are planning on going again soon. One of the best island we visited. The front desk was very friendly, our room was cleaned everyday and mopped. The overall hotel experience was great.
