This is our second time at a Riu last year it was Jamica. My husband and I meet two other couples each year for a vacation. We all like to do different things so this place was perfect for all. Just sit on the beach or by the large pool, take a dip ,go shopping or walk the beautiful beach. You can use the sailboats and any of the other sporting equipment thet have. The people there go out of their way to make sure you are satisfied, very friendly . On the first day we arrived we were dissasfied with our room we made it known at the front desk and the next day we were in a much nicer room. Very clean rooms. We went to the casino and the girls played roulette every night. No problem there just don't use a credit card . The food was good just bring a few pairs of long pants for the men you need them at the buffett.

Great Beach, Great hotel

We stayed here in March to attend a family member's wedding and, though we didn't pick the destination or hotel, we really loved the Macao. The rooms are large, well-maintained, secure, and everything worked. The restaurants are all good, though gourmets may have some complaints, there was plenty to choose from, especially at the buffet, and the Caribe Grill is worth a trip just for the view. There are plenty of activities to choose from, and if you get bored you can use all of the facilities of the Riu Bambu (which has a nice swim-up bar), Riu Taino, and Riu Naiboa, all of which are walking distance away. The resort is especially nice for an older crowd who want something quiet and laid-back. We did go to the casino one night, and it does have kind of a "shady" feel, but don't forget...you AREN'T in the US, where there are regulations and agencies to make sure people don't get ripped off. Confine your gaming to the slot machines, and don't bet more than you can afford, or better yet, avoid the casino entirely. (You wouldn't be missing much!) The best reason to book the Macao is the BEACH, which is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! Perfect white sand, beautiful blue water, a nice beach bar, and a waiter who brings drinks right to your chair. You can't ask for more!

Casino fraud...Riu does nothing

I was the one who was scammd at the casino. The "dealer" of the game was definitely running his own scam....counting the numbers and removing the balls before we could count them up ourselves (progressive roulette) When confronted, he became very angry and accused us of accusing him of being a cheater....then he continued to do it several times. When he realized we were on to him and quit the game, he grabbed my credit card and left the casino for about ten minutes. When he returned he had $3585 on my credit card and wanted me to sign it. When I refused, he became angry and I was truly fearful of this man. There was a crowd gathering behind us and I figured I was better off signing it and dealing with my credit card company than to continue with a hostile casino worker in a foreign country. We checked with the front desk personnell at the Riu Macao, only to be told that the casino merely rented space to the casino and were not liable for anything the casino did....rather amazing, since it is advertised as part of their entertainment!!!! Now...for INSULT TO INJURY...when I arrived home, less than 20 hours later, I went to cancel my credit card...only to find out that the dealer not only charged the $3585 to my account, but added three more charges totalling $8872 to my account for a total of $12500!!! Now, do you think if a man would scam your credit card for thousands of dollars, that he would also cheat at a roulette game?? It has been two weeks since I arrived home....neither the White Water World Casinos, Riu Resorts, Riu Macao, or Apple VAcations have answered my numerous letters... where does their responsibility lie?

Don't Do It

very old hotel, needs extreme update, horrible musty smell in all the rooms. If your used to something below a Holiday Inn, this is the place for you! Would not reccommend this hotel.
