Hotel Aurora

This review applies to the Hotel Aurora's "family rooms" which are in fact self-catering apartments, situated some 750 meters from the hotel, in the heart of Amalfi.

For self catering, the location of the rooms couldn't be better. They are on a small square, some 50 meters from the Duomo (a small passageway leads you under the cathedral to piazza del Duomo) and about the same distance from Amalfi's public beach.

There are 2 supermarkets nearby (La Grande Mela, hidden behind the main street and one on the pizza dei Dogi) and plenty of fruit and vegetable shops (where you'll be treated as a welcome guest once you've returned a couple of times), meat and fish sellers.

Our apartment entirely matched its description: "one bedroom with 'queen bed', one sofa bed in the living room, an ensuite light blue coloured tiled bathroom with shower and hair dryer, modern white wooden furniture and light blue ceramic flooring-SatelliteTV, individual air conditioning in living and bedroom, kitchenette well equipped with electric oven and fridge, iron beaten table to seat 4 persons". It was small though (25 sq meters isn't that big) and the only real inconvenient was the lack of windows with a view. There was a very small terrace in courtyard, but that was only useful for hanging out wet swimsuits. The availability of a wash and dry machine was quite useful.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it contained everything it needed and it turned out to be very quiet despite its central (and excellent) location.

On arrival, you have to check in at the hotel desk and they'll drive you to the apartment (handy for your luggage).

Towels and bed linen are changed after 3 or 4 days if you're staying for a week.

If you're looking for a central spot in Amalfi and don't mind making your own breakfast (or enjoying it outside on one of the terraces), then this place is really recommended.
