My spacious suite was located near the top of this fabulous hotel and featured some delightful creature comforts. The rooms are decorated in a classical style reminicient of Spain's Golden Age. The fine furnishings (comprised of leather and velvet) all boast hand-carved details in the wood. My bedroom and living room windows gave a spectacular view overlooking Plaza de Espana and the rest of the city. To my great surprise, the windows opened completely at this height. So, what did I do? I went leaning out the window with my camera for some great night shots! What else could I have done? The bathroom was of generous proportions and featured a separate thermostat for those who like to make things extra steamy. Of course, a full supply of toiletries were stocked along with a welcoming set of pre-warmed towels and big, cushy, Turkish robes. Ah, bliss.

The hotel staff is comprised of very friendly, helpful and service-minded people. I was often implored to join a bellhop on a private hotel elevator whenever the main ones were crowded. Housekeeping services normally take place sometime during the late morning and early afternoon. Upon my arrival, however, the concierge saw how tired I was and took it upon himself to ensure no one disturbed me. A very sweet gesture on his part. Prompt, efficient room service is also available 24 hours a day.

This is a fine hotel that I would recommend to anyone thinking of staying in Spain. It is located conveniently in the city center and very close to major sites and recreation facilities. The Royal Palace, Royal Theater, Plaza Mayor and fabulous shopping malls are all located within half a mile. Complete with a beauty salon, sauna and two great restaurants, the Crowne Plaza Hotel is the place to enjoy it all!
