Great time in Playa del Carmen

I had a great time at Viva. The place was clean and nice. The food was great at the specialty restaurants. The locals were very nice and the bar man was great everytime he knew my drink and my husband and I by name. The waiters were wonderful, for example in the morning I love smoke salmon, and I spoke to one of the waiters and I had it every morning waiting for me when I was seated. The room was cleaned everyday by someone who would always put a nice decoration of a towel on the bed which was so cute. We had a swam and elephant design. Yes, it is an all inclusive and we were treated very nicely from the staff. We also returned the favors by giving tips for the waiters and staff, which I find is not much but it helps them. Also that week that we went the hotel was over booked, they changed us to the Viva Aztec which was smaller and still very nice. Also because of the mix up we had chocolates and a bottle of wine that was sent to our room. So I would say the first day I was a bit annoyed by the mix up but after being transformed to another hotel and they explained the problem, we were really well treated. The other guest were great alot of Canadian and Italian and Europeans which I love. If you go to Cancun you end up with alot of American which I am not too crazy about. Love American but they get too crazy at times.

We found the Hotel and Staff were great. Room was fine, the beach great. The food in all the reataurants was very average. No flavor, I spoke to X (Executive Chef) about what he was serving. The night I spoke to him, they had an action station with grilled meat. Nice idea but try seasoning the meat before you grill it. The other ala Carte eateries were the same. The Mayan ala Carte was not good at all. We ended up eating offten over at the other Wyndam. The Buffet tasted better and had a great meal at Don Daigo's. Juan at the hopitality desk was very helpfull even finding us a rental car one night a few minutes before they closed. All in all I would pass on The Wyndham Azteca in the future.

The hotel was ok. The room was clean but it smelled. The food in the buffet was terrible. The food at the sit down restaurants was very good but we were only able to get reservations for 2 nights.

We just returned from Playa del Carmen after spending five days at this hotel. Unfortunately, the service and food were some of the worst we've experienced and highly recommend spending a little bit more by making reservations elsewhere. We were there for a wedding and although the ceremony was absolutely beautiful, the hotel just wasn't something to remember and we would not stay there nor recommend it to anyone. The only plus side is it's good for large groups and it's relatively close to 5th Avenue.
