Sandals - Great Jamaica Experience

This vacation exceeded our expectations! We chose to stay at the Sandals Grande Ocho Rios. The property was dynamite, the staff friendly and accommodating and the food was out of this world! Because we are golf enthusiasts, this location was perfect – we played every day and still had time to enjoy all the other resort amenities. Grown-up’s only was a big bonus, and made for an even more relaxing time. We will undoubtedly return – hopefully, early next year. We recommend this trip for anyone looking to escape for some sun, fun, activities and a bit of romance.

this place is great for the everyday person

When my husband and I first went to sandals ocho rios, it was our first vacation in a very, very long time. Needless to say we have been back 4 years in a row..that right there should tell you something. This place is great for the AVERAGE couple. Meaning that those who live in a normal world (dont have money to waste) will truly appreciate all that they have to offer. Good food, lots of activity's if you choose to participate and privacy if you stay on the manor side. This place is soooooo worth the money I can't tell ya...the room's may seem a little worn but believe me you're not there for the room...but Butler Suite or Concierge is the way to go Have fun...We will in October of 2009

Probably the best deal on the island. We shopped around for about a month, looking at all-inclusive resorts and picked this one because of our budget, length of trip and overall reviews. We were not dissapointed at all. First off, we booked through onsite travel website, and when we arrived, our room had to be upgraded for free due to over booking. I think the resort books these last on purpose because they know onsite travel website will take care of the upgrade. Good for us either way. Food was good, but we are a pretty healthy couple and easy to please. The staff is really friendly, bartenders are really cool also. Alot of these reviews do alot of complaining... But you have to realize, you're in Jamaica, things move a little slower here on purpose. Why would anyone be in any hurry to do anything in this beautiful country, unless it was an emergency. The resort is well maintained, foods pretty good, lots of stuff to do: every day/night they have different activities scheduled. The water sports stuff is nice also, with friendly staff. The only negative thing we have to say is that our flight left at 1:45pm. They said the bus that was taking us to the airport had to leave at 7. That means we arrive at the airport at 8:45. Yea it might have taken about an hour to get through security and what not (now 10am), but we feel like we got kicked out of our room early and sat waiting to leave for 3.5 hours. And we found this out, by letter, when we stumbled into our rooms around 12:30 the night before. I bet the hotel had someone else in our room before we even left Jamaica. Overall - great resort...

I have been reading a lot of negative reviews about this resort, and I must say, for the most part, my wife and I did not have the same experience. The resort is far from an airport, it does take a while to get there. If you don't like to travel to far off places, perhaps this is not the resort for you. The property is very large, which did mean longer trips from one side of the resort to the other. They had plenty of shuttle services and a "Jitney's" which would take you around. The staff was very friendly (with the the exception of one militant waitress, which was almost amusing) and the food was good. There was some construction, but nothing too distracting.

Overall, I would recommend this resort to anyone. We had a fantastic trip and we plan on going back again in the future.

Didn't live up to the "Sandals Experience"

My wife and I stayed here for what was supposed to be 6 nights for our honeymoon. Sandals Ochos was a major disappointment unless you like noise and walking up and down steps. Every morning we were woken up by loud banging dishes and people slamming their doors at 6am. The resort was very big separated by a road running through the property. Restaraunts and other activities were on both sides so you had to take a shuttle (ran every 10-15 minutes) to get from one side to another. Overall, the food was pretty good but was lacking seafood. Don't expect quick service. A typical dinner takes about 2 hours but this is wherever you go in Jamaica. Drinks were good too. I lived off of their Appleton rum and jerk ckicken. Beach was tiny. Kept up well but very small and isolated to the inside of a dock. Pool was good. Manorside pool better. There are so many levels to the property that you had to walk up a flight of steps to go from one place to another (even from the pool to the almost attached whirlpool). I don't mind walking up steps, but it got annoying very quick. I felt very tired after the first couple of days. If you want to relax forget it. Were able to transfer at front desk after 3 nights to Sandals Dunn's for an additional cost. Much better there. Reminds me of Italian village. Great restaraunts, less steps and a better beach. Still loud there too. We stayed at The Royal Decameron Club in Runaway Bay for 6 nights too. I'd pick there over Sandals anytime and it was only $*/night. Got to stay in our own bungalow and the beach was much better. Stay away from Sandals.
