Nice hotel. Staff friendly and always helpful. My wife stayed here previously, a couple of years back and had a very positive experience when the staff went out of their way to help when she got sick.

Not Luxurious and a Huge Rip Off!!!

The hotel is conveniently located downtown, but that is where the positives end. I booked the hotel directly from their website and paid for it in advance. When I checked in they refused to give me the rooms I booked at the rate I booked and charge me more. Then, they charged me $28 a day for parking for the whole week-long stay even though I only had a car for one day. They also charged $12.99 for daily internet service for the whole week even though I only used it one day. The rooms were small and nothing special. The food was awful and expensive, and the service non-existent. I love Hyatt hotels and stay at them everywhere I travel, but I would never stay at this place again.

Convenient Location, Great Service

I just got back from a conference and stayed here for 3 nights. Nice rooms, comfy beds, but a bit on the loud side. The train that runs by the convention center is VERY loud (I've also stayed at the Marriott and you can hear it there, too) and as we returned from dinner one night I stopped at the desk and requested some earplugs. Not 10 minutes passed and a very nice hotel engineer came to my room with 3 pairs of disposable earplugs! Also, at a breakfast event I attended, the waitstaff offered to bring me a fruit plate when I passed on the bacon and eggs they were serving that morning. There were 3 tea drinkers at our table of 8, and all were served hot water with an assortment of tea bags and honey and lemon, plus refills on the water! Usually if you ask for tea, it takes forever to get to you-- after everyone else has had their second cup of coffee-- and then they forget all about you. Well done, Hyatt waitstaff! We also attended several hospitality suites and the food was quite good. Dined at Sally's on the waterfront and I had a wonderful scallop and shrimp salad. Also enjoyed the chipotle cobb salad at Redfield's (I think that was the name), which had surprisingly good food for a sports pub. The only negative is that everything is a bit spendy, $15 and $16 for the salads, and $8 for a small glass of wine at one of the non-hosted events we attended. I suppose that's to be expected at a big hotel, tho. The housekeeper on my floor was a doll, and the employees were all friendly and helpful. Absolutely made my stay!

Former resident of San Diego. We stayed over during Thanksgiving holiday just before completing move to Atlanta. Loved it. The lobby was immense and extremely nice, staff excellent, and room was great. Roll out bed for our four year old was free. I thought this was very nice. Resturants in back of the hotel were very nice. Check out the deli in back for some good eats! Only two complaints valet parking fees were a little high at $27 a night. You can self park for $20 a night. However, if you have a vehicle recommend the using valet if you have bags. Room service was a little high. Two burgers (one of them was kids), two diet cokes and a fudge ice cream with the kid was $50 before the tip. Understanding this was the Hyatt.

Not so Grand After All

The best part about this hotel is its location and views. The hotel is close proximity to everything, in fact the trolley stops in front of the hotel. At the rear of the hotel there is an entrance to Seaport Village. Our room was on 30th floor, a "premium" view room. It was indeed a premium view of both San Diego bay and downtown. The not so good aspects are as follows: If you plan on paying with a debit card upon check in, think twice. They hold an additional * dollars over and above the total cost of your room for incidentals. The business center closed early and I found that to be an inconvenience to say the least. When I asked about the early closure I was told that I should have asked about the possibility of this happening when I booked the room??!! As well, Internet access is not free. The first ten minutes is 5 dollars and so on... The restaurant 'Laels" was overpriced. The steak was good, but the fake mashed potatoes and caramelized onion for two came to an amazing 87 dollars. Oh yes, the valet parking was an extra * dollar flat fee. We waited 45 minutes for the valet to get our car when were ready to leave. Of course, we could have self-parked, that would have saved 4 dollars. Lastly, and most disturbing, I did not pay for the key for the snack cabinet in our room. But after going home and looking over my bank account, I was charged a whopping 25 dollars for snacks that I could not have eaten. I called and got the fee reversed, but the ordeal took 30 minutes of my time. Final Analysis: The view/location is unparalleled, expect nothing else grand.
