A friend of mine stayed at the Grand Hotel for her birthday weekend. Not being able to "stop in there" myself to arrange something special for her, i called the Lansing sales office for assistance. The sales manager I spoke with, took all my information quickly. She forwarded the information onto a anothet staffer who was on duty at the hotel and made sure the bottle of wine and other amentieis got in my friends' room with a card from me. I just received a thank you from my friend who was so surprised when she found the goodies in her room. All of this happened within 24 hours; again- great service and kudos to the staff!

The food is wonderful. The lakeside views can't be beat. The hotel offers a lot of places and ways to enjoy life. Where else can you wake up to the sound of horse-drawn carriges below your window? And take in high tea with wonderful music? The experience is Grand.
It is not your everyday hotel, so splurge and get the lakeside room, with a balcony if possible. When you consider that breakfast and a gourmet dinner are included (and you get a significant discount on their wonderful lunch buffet), it is not that expensive. We think 3 nights is the perfect length visit, so watch for their "buy two nights and get the third free" specials.
Someday we are looking forward to staying there sans kid and spending the evening in the wine bar, or on the dance floor, or holding hands looking out of the windows of the cupola bar over the Straights of Mackinac.
But in the meantime, if you have small children like we do, consider visiting during family week when the dining room is alive with the chatter of children. However, they have several things for older kids (over 5) all dring peak season, such as supervised kids' activities and a special kids' buffet so they don't have to wait to start eating. The heated pool is marvelous. Baby sitting is available, but we didn't use it because we enjoyed playing with our toddler on the porch, walking to the nearby playground equipment, poking around town, and introducing her to all the beautiful things at the hotel. We never even got a chance to bike or rent horses. It was great. Enjoy.
