Wonderful hotel!

We only stayed here for 3 days but our stay was very pleasant. We had a nice and clean room with a perfect view of Mariahilferstrasse. Hotel rate was also very inexpensive considering the hotel is located in the shopping district and is also very close to everything. There is also an English cinema right next door from the hotel and also plenty of restaurants and shops. From our hotel, we walked towards Hofburg Palace, Maria Theresa Monument and practically all over Vienna. You can also take the train or the bus but we preferred to walk since the weather was beautiful the entire time we were there. I would definitely stay here again.

Haydn Hotel

In recent months, I've become a fan of the travel website www.venere.com, which directed me to the Haydn Hotel. Vienna has countless hotels, and since I wasn't on a shoestring/hostel budget (traveling with mom has its perks!), I had many more choices. We knew we wanted a hotel near the city center since my foot was still healing, and we didn't want to hike around too much. Haydn Hotel is conveniently located about 1km from the Westbahnhof on Vienna's main shopping street, Mariahilferstrasse. We managed to walk to the hotel from the train station, but it would have been a short cab ride or two stops on the subway if we'd chosen that route. Look for the bright-yellow-orange signs on the right side of the street--if you get to the Haydn statue in front of a small church, you've gone too far.

The hotel was exactly what we wanted, and everything, from the lobby to our comparatively spacious (by European standards) bathroom, was immaculately clean. Each of the desk clerks we spoke with during our stay was friendly and spoke English very well, and we appreciated the free (but slow) Internet offered in the lobby. Our room on the third floor faced a side street across from the aforementioned church, which was ideal, since we weren't bothered by much street noise. We got a couple of English channels on the TV, and the room was very comfortable, but a bit hot at night (although supposedly air-conditioned). My mom especially appreciated the well-decorated corridors--elegant cream marble and thick burgundy rugs, and motion detector lights to save electricity.

Breakfast each morning was great--I was glad we stayed 4 nights, as I could sample different breads, meats, fruits, cereals, etc., each day. The Haydn's location was fantastic--about 3 minutes from the Neubaugasse subway station, but also within walking distance of the Museumsquartier and the city center. Overall, we had a fantastic stay, especially for the price we paid-- 98€ per night, which was an excellent value for Vienna. Check out the hotel's informative website (in English, and including photos) for more information: http://www.haydn-hotel.a.
