This was my first time in Dubai, but my husband is there often. We found the Metro Deira, a 4 star, to be quite comfortable during our stay. The staff was very warm, friendly and accomodating. They called us by name after the first day. It is hard to get a taxi at this hotel at certain times of the day. The staff said that taxis have duty to 5 star hotels first, then it trickles down. Hotel location is great for walking to shopping centers, site seeing, and local eateries. We had a corner room which looked out on the famous Clock Tower. Traffic never stops in this city, nor does the construction. We found our room to be relatively quiet despite all the noise outside. Our room was very large, richly decorated and comfortable. The king bed was ok, not plush by US standards. Housekeeping was very efficient and responded quickly to any requests. All bedclothes were changed daily, unlike other hotels we have stayed in for a week. Make a note that this hotel does not have wash clothes or face clothes as soon would call them. We found this odd. So make sure you pack your own, or buy some as we did. Our room rate included the breakfast buffet daily. I would recommend this, it was worth the $. We tried all the restaurants + room service in this hotel. The food quality was top notch and presentation was excellent each time. We booked several excursions through the hotel, but thought the Dow Supper Cruise was not worth the $. Look around and book elsewhere. The Desert Safari was a blast, we had so much fun. The safari is probably only as good as your vehicle driver; ours happened to be awesome.
