Best Family Resort Ever!

I went to FDR in January after reading all the good reviews on the internet. I have 3 kids (2, 6 & 9) and the idea of a nanny at no additional cost for 8 hrs of the day was too much to resist. I am a stay at home mom, so I needed a "break" from the kids. It was the best vacation of my life! The nanny was so professional and the kids took to her right away. They have lots of activities for the kids and even my 2 yr old got her face painted and tried to do tie-dye (very cute). They have little contests/pageant shows for the kids at nights, my girls loved that! Lots of variety in food, lots of fresh fruits, fish, jerk chicken (yum) and I even managed to have a romantic dinner with hubby at their Italian Restaurant (adults only - yes!). The babysitting service after 4:40pm is so worth it, US$6 per hour and the nanny has the kids for the night. Did I mention the rooms?! Lots of space for the 5 of us, we got upgraded to a 2-bdr suite, which was like a little apartment! The beautiful nanny stocks the fridge with snacks for the kids (cereal, crackers, milk, cheese etc.) - no cost, separate bedrooms for us but more importantly, separate bathrooms!! We were in heaven! The hardest part of this vacation was leaving! We will definitely be back next year!! Thanks FDR!!!
Perfect Vacation for kids AND parents!

We just returned from FDR and I am already planning our trip for next year. We have 3 small children (twins 4, son 3) and couldn't have found a place that allowed us all to relax and have fun that was as wonderful as FDR. Our nanny was so wonderful that we have written to her and kept in touch. At FDR you can spend great times with your kids and enjoy a candlelit dinners alone with your spouse. The family atmosphere is amazing. The staff is second to none in service and friendliness....Please give this resort a chance if you have kids, you won't regret it!
We all loved it!

This has to be one of the best vacations we have ever had. FDR is a small all inclusive resort and the staff and guests were all very friendly and the staff went out of their way to please us. Best part were the children and adult activities and staff service. Room size was excellent (we had a 2 story,2 bedroom with a view of the sea) but the rooms need updating - the bathrooms and kitchen are starting to show their age.
At the resort you get a vacation nanny and although our children are almost teens, the nanny was very helpful keeping them busy and ensuring we had what we needed as a personal assistant.
Food was okay -- not great but consistent. The children could always find something they enjoyed . Drinks were good and they used top shelf liquor for many of the drinks.
We ran into many families who vacation there at least once a year. One family we met had been there 17 times!
We would recommend this resort to anyone with children not looking for an elegant resort but looking for fun and relaxation with the kids. The kids wanted to know when we were returning.
For those that had not been to Jamaica for a long time or never had, we were very impressed with the upgrades to the island, especially the new highway. The Jamaican people are always friendly and alot of fun.
Get a good Nanny

The online reviews proved quite true to the experience... good location, good facilities, mediocre food. Overall, my family had quite a good experience and would certainly return at some later date. The only rough spot happened to be our "Vacation Nanny". To put it bluntly. she was poor -- late to work, slow, not particularly helpful to us, and not very interactive w/ the kids... now I must make it clear that we never felt the children were mistreated, and they were happy, but she never took any initiative to help our family have a good time -- she did what was asked and nothing more. After finding the Nanny watching Soap Operas w/ our 3 year old son (who was happy to watch TV) we approached our Nanny's supervisor and expressed our concerns... the following day our Nanny was replaced w/ the Nanny of our dreams! Our new Nanny (XXX) was great! Promp, efficient, friendly, aware of our family's needs and able to predict them (such as seeing our beach towls were wet and finding us replacements). As well, XXX went above and beyond, decorating our bed each night & making the kids souvenir t-shirts on the last day.
The take away message is to make sure you get a good Nanny (I know of no other family that had any issues w/ their Nanny)... if that means replacing the one you are assigned, it is more than worth your time! Even better, request a specific Nanny... you can find many of the Nanny's mentioned by name in the online reviews.
One other warning, my kids are 6 & 3 and loved it, teens may well be bored as the resort caters to the younger kids.
Happy Travels, hope this helps
A Vacation for Mom and kid paradise

FDR is a great place if you have little kids and you're desperate for a break. It's clean and pretty, the foods good and the Vacation Nannies are great. Kids love this place. If you aren't a tired mom - dying for a chance to eat a meal in peace, finally get a chance to exercise and sleep - it can be boring . This was my fourth visit and I don't think it's as much fun or as well maintained as it was when the previous manager was there. To my ten year old, however, it's paradise on earth. He enjoyed it as much as he did the first, second and third visits.
