Clean, fresh, oceanfront resort, somewhat isolated

Beautiful oceanfront resort, newly renovated. (Some work still in progress July '08 but confined to areas that did not interfere with guests' stay.) Bright, clean modern rooms, flat panel TV, great bathroom with dual sit-on-top sinks and Kohler fixtures. LARGE balcony. Great pool with tons of padded lounge chairs, swim-up bar. Nice beach with plenty of chairs, water sports available right in front of the resort. (Parasail, banana boat, Jet ski.) Several shops and boutiques in the resort. There is absolutely nothing within walking distance, however, so plan to do all your shopping and dining at the resort, or you'll have to take a taxi. Ideal for short stays, but for longer stays, you might want to be closer to the action. All rooms are non-smoking, but the casino allows it, and the smoke is very dense there. Restaurant menus offered a good variety and prices weren't any worse than I expected, but service was horrendous my first night there. My dinner order got lost and then took forever to come out. My drink did not get refilled and I never got my check. I finally left cash on the table and walked out. The little cafe near the lobby got my breakfast order wrong. Things ordered without cheese were covered in cheese... things like that. The food quality was good, but the service was not. Some of the desk staff was clueless, like it was their first day on the job or something. Friendly, just not particularly competent. However, for the comfort, cleanliness, swim-up bar and swaying palm trees, I would definitely go back!

STAY IN THE RENOVATED ROOMS!!!

Overall, it Aruba was a great island with the kids. The Marriott has a great property with a nice beach. A little crowded in Spring Break and difficult to get a Palapa unless you like to wake up at 6 AM. My main disappointment was my initial room. I paid $526 per night (before taxes) for a deluxe oceanfront room. As an Elite Marriott traveler, I requested a room in the renovated tower. Well, I got an old room that was falling apart. The plumbing and other things were falling apart. I almost got hit in the head with a broken shower head. I of course complained and put up a fuss and did get a much much nicer room; however, the view was far inferior. The manager would NOT reduce my rate. All this point a big asterisk on an otherwise wonderful vacation.

Loved ARuba, loved the location, checked in and they put us in the old rooms, even though i asked for a new one, 500.00 for THAT, complained and they moved us, MUCH MUch nicer, front desk did not want to accomodate, but i paid too much to be in that old tower. Great other than that. One guy X, in casino was a nasty sort, but other than that everyone was lovely, definetly going back to Aruba, it is wonderful

Outstanding Vacation on Pristine Beach

Stayed at other hotels on Palm Beach but this one is by far the BEST. The hotel is the last one on Palm Beach and there was more beach front (from the hotel to the water) than the other hotels, so the beach seemed less crowded. The food and beverage service at the beach was the BEST and the pool area is very nice - and kept very clean. The only draw back is that you have to get down to the beach before 7:00 a.m. to secure a palapa. Sometimes it was hard communicating with hotel staff - when we called about a matress they brought matches! We lauged! Even though there wasn't much for the kids to do, they had a wonderful time and want to go back next year, and we plan to.

Very nice lobby and casino. The restaurants were good, but pricey for what you were served. A little disappointed with the beach- it was very narrow and crowded. They had it roped off so you couldn't swim past the ropes and the water at the ropes wasn't even over 6 feet in depth. Overall it was a nice property, but I feel it was way over priced for what you were getting.
