Stayed here for one night years ago during a period when, for 4 years, I travelled throughout the Caribbean, Central and South America - so I was an expert on hotels. At the time, I didn't speak much Spanish and most hotel staff did not speak English Supper was especially interesting as I could not read the menu and the waiter initially had no idea that I was trying to order a meal of Mexican food. Between us we agreed I needed a beer and a good Mexican meal which, at the time, was very difficult to get in Canada. Subsequently, I met some new friends in a nearby Plaza and we retired to a local bar to learn each others' languages and customs. Poured myself into bed about midnight. Luckily, I had asked my cab driver from the airport to pick me up at 7:00am for an early flight. I was awakened at 7:03am by a call from the front desk. They had taken the trouble to investigate, with the cabby?s assistance and insistence, and identified who I probably was and were now calling to insure they had the right guest. I made the flight and have now been married for 38 years to the person I was going to see. The staff (probably retired now but traditions live on) made me feel genuinely welcome. They went out of their way to facilitate every aspect of my stay. They made it one of the most memorable of that 4 year period.
