Family getaway Dec 2008

This is a very beautiful resort, the rooms are spacious, comfortable and have great views. The pools, folage and beach are very pretty and inviting. With that being said we were very dissapointed with our stay. We normally do not complain and this is our first review ever on anything. We brought our kids 22 and 28 on this, our 3rd annual family vacation. The food--well lets just say that as for the buffet--its the same every single day! And the restrauants -- as long as you are in no hurry and are not hungry you should be OK--we went to two of the restrauants--the steak house and the Itailian. We waited 1 1/2 -2 hours for our food at both of them and when it did come we were very surprised at the very small portions (1/2 of a small baked potato, and a steak that maybe measured 1 1/2 by 2 inches) We left still hungry. The maid service was minimal--on two days our rooms did not even get cleaned or restocked. The selection at the bar is not much (and you get two beers daily in your room). The bar staff is not knowledgeable on how to mix drinks. The staff is friendly, but not too helpful and at times we felt that we were an inconvience to them. The all -inclusiveness of this resort does not even compare to other all-inclusive resorts that we have stayed at the previous two years. Would we come back? Would we recomend it? Will we ever go to another Barcelo again? NO, NO, NO.

We'd visit again!

The Barcelo La Jolla De Mismaloya, just south of Puerto Vallarta, was everything that was advertised. Absolutely everything was included; food (4 restaurants and a snack bar), drinks (liquor and soft), the pools and spas, and the spacious suites. When the bellman opened the door my first reaction was, "who do we have to share this with". The rooms were open and airy with marble-like tile floors and a balcony that overlooked the pools and Pacific Ocean. The minibar was free and kept stocked if we couldn't make it down to one of the 3 bars. All in all we had a wonderful, relaxing vacation with no $$ surprises.

Destination wedding

We went there with a group to a family wedding. Most of us had never experienced a vacation such a this. Everyone in the group was impressed with the quantity and quality of both food and drink. The staff was top notch, very polite, helpful and courteous. The rooms were excellent and exceptionally clean. If you are a jet setter, you will probably not enjoy this hotel. But, if you prefer a quiet secluded vacation where everything is taken care of, I would highly recommend this hotel. The setting is breath taking, and most everything you would want including a few small shops offer a pretty good selection of souvenier type stuff. The drawback is the distance from town, which didn't bother us much as we only felt the desire to go to town once during our stay. We would definately stay here again!! Another big plus for us was the feeling of security. The grounds are gated and the gate is manned 24 hours.

Fabulous room--loved the 2 bathrooms! Great staff and overall the food was good too--we had one of the best Sea Bass dinners ever. Nice small bar with nightly entertainment that is fun and well done. Beautiful pool and grounds. Really good value for $ for the all inclusive.

Excellent Hotel, Poor Location

As a hotel, the place is truly excellent: the food is high quality, plentiful and enjoyable. The bars offer generous and constant refills. The pools are clean and well designed. The internet, computers are always broken down on a daily basis; bring your own lap top. If you want to go to Mexico and stay only in the hotel, this is a great place. However, there are two points you should know: location and beach. The hotel is located a fiftenn to twetny minute, thirteen dollar, taxi ride outside the center of the city. So if you want to go into the city, expect to pay (plus tip) thirty dollars round trip and at least one half hour in the taxi roundtrip. The beach: there isn't one. The hotel has about sixty yards of beach with a depth, from wall to incoming waves, of about fifteen yards. With high tide, nothing. If you have dreams of taking long walks on a beach, this is not the hotel for you. If you want to spend your time always poolside, then you might be happy here. Caution: If you have a room on the second floor, when it rains, the water spills from the hall corridor and the balcony into your room. I came back to the room after supper and a rainstorm to find the entire room flooded with water one inch deep. The reception moved us to a new and higher room and said that this happens all the time. Also, a note on the internet: the reception charges a fee ($5.00) for an access code which you do not need because the computer never asks for it and gives you direct access without it, so save the five dollars and just use the computers. I enjoyed my stay there.
