Beautiful hotel - but food poisoning ruined the trip!

We were very pleased with Barcelo's gorgeous grounds. The hotel is located in a beautiful area with views of the beach to one side and jungle/hills on the other. The size and look of the room were great- the dark wood and the natural slate-like flooring in the bathroom really added to the beauty. We went to the buffet with low expectations about the quality of the food, but we were pleasantly surprised at how good the food tasted. Each day they changed up a few of the buffet sections, while also keeping some of the staples like the salad and fruit and some Mexican dishes. We also really enjoyed the activities that were planned. Though not many people participated, we still had fun playing beach volleyball and bingo, among others. All in all, everything was great EXCEPT we got a horrible case of food poisoning on New Years Eve from the Spanish restaurant at the hotel (Don Quixote), which ruined our night's plans and wiped us out for a couple of extra days. Judging from other reviews from people that have also gotten food poisoning from Barcelo restaurants, this is a common problem. I really find this unacceptable! As beautiful (and affordable) as this hotel is, I would recommend that visitors to PV find another hotel that does not have a history of food poisoning.

The services was great, the views were spectacular, But the food at the outside resurant on New Years eve lunch made my family ill, according to other guest ours was not the only Family. We lost one day due to this the Hotel staff was on top of this complant, and I can only hope no one else was made ill from this area. I would say over all the experience was great..
