If you don't like your stay at this hotel, maybe all-inclusive resorts are not right for you.
I've only been to two all-inclusive hotels before, but I believe they offered good benchmarks for comparison.
The Riu Palace is a gorgeous hotel in a good location. It took us about 45 minutes to walk the beach into Cabo (took the bus back for 7 pesos or approx. 60 cents.)
The food was good for the buffets (gotta tell you the all day fresh guacamole and fresh pico de gallo was the best) and the food at the restaurants was very good.
Every staff member we met was really nice and helpful. Yes we tipped in small amounts. Personally it didn't feel right not to.
Okay I do have one complaint...ahem...suggestion. The entertainment at night was awkward. The suggestion (to the hotel), don't try and force "entertainment." Just hire a really good band and have them play while people hang out and have a night cap.
Things I learned on my trip: Ocean view is not oceanfront. The water taxi from the Riu Palace next door is a great deal, just make sure you get on the boat butt first. At the airport, completely ignore the "official looking" people (they even have lanyards around their neck) after you pass through customs and before you reach the outside (***if you take away nothing else from this review remember that***) Don't ignore the red flags on the beach.
Have a great time in Mexico.

I had read all of the reviews on this site and others before making my reservation. I too went here with a bit of hesitancy, and found most of my expectations materialized. We travel frequently and are accustomed to quality accommodations and dining. We were generally satisfied with the Riu Palace, though wanted to provide others with some details to help you make your decision: 1. Dinner reservations were simple and we did not wait long. The horror stories of the former method were replaced with short lines and a simple process. We dined in each restaurant and never waited more than 10 minutes for a reservation. 2. You cannot swim in the ocean here. 3. The beds really are pushed together to make one large King bed. They are uncomfortable, quite hard, though we survived six nights without trouble. 4. You are in Mexico. There will be bugs in the room and hallways. The room is well maintained and clean. Our room and minibar attendants were wonderful. We left $5 per day for the attendants and came back to turn down service, towel animals and chocolates. 5. The dinner food is quite good for an all inclusive. The drinks are top shelf. They do not know bourbon/whiskey in all bars/restuarants, though we found this to be a non-issue for the most part. 6. We upgraded our room via Travelocity to an "ocean view." When we arrived, we could barely see the ocean. They gave us another alternative which also barely displayed the ocean. They told us there really is no such thing as a "non ocean view," though they make no guarantee about full or partial view. Don't pay extra unless you are going for a suite. 7. No AC in the gym. Equipment is old.

Were there in September 2008 and really enjoyed ourselves. The hotel was really really nice. The pools and i believe there are four of them were fantastic. We meet lots of nice people.
The hotel staff were great. We would definetly stay there again. The food might not have been the best but it wasn't bad.
Great stay for our firs trip there!

I was impresed by the cleanliness and support of the staff members. The all inclusive package was unbelievable and unbeatable. I would highly recommened staying at this resort hotel. The staff were extremley helpfull and friendly to our family. We were treated as we were a partl of theirs. I plan on coming back soon. The rooms were great with all that one could desire on a stay. I loved it.
