A fantastic hotel, quality accomodations

My wife and I stayed here in May 2009. I am confused by some of the negative comments because we found this hotel to be an excellent choice. The entire staff was helpful and always there when you needed them. The food was excellent along with the service. Prices are high all over the island so I am very confused by other remarks that refer to high pricing. This hotel was an excellent value. Mold? Never saw or smelled anything that resembles mold. The room was immaculate, the bathroom always clean and the freshest of towels each day. We loved to chat with the tropical birds on the terrace...the pool area was well kept and security definitely not an issue. We would return here in a heartbeat. To each his own as they say....we found this hotel to be one of the best we visited on the island. Thanks Westin you have some great employees!

Great Service but hotel needs major improvement

My husband and I just got back from our 1 week stay at the Westin Hotel. Our first room located on the 12th floor was clean but definitely lacked the quality and decor of other hotels we've visited in our past trips to Aruba. The room had an awful smell and after the first night, we requested a room change because the smell got worse when the AC unit was off. It turns out that the bad odor was mold. The front desk/concierge responded right away and we moved to a much bigger room with a much better view. The bathroom is definitely outdated and the showers were very small. The most beautiful part of the resort is definitely the lobby, shopping area in the lower level, and the restaurants. The pool is a lot smaller than pictured in the professionals photos on the main Westin Aruba website and the lounge chairs are a big dirty with a lot of ants crawling on them. You're better off tanning on the beach as the huts are generally available for free and there is actually service for drinks from the bar. There is no need to get up super early to reserve a hut because there are plenty to go around. I suggest eating outside of the hotel because there are so much more variety at a fraction of the cost. The walk along the strip is approximately 15-20 minutes but really worth exploring. Westin restaurants were way too pricey and not too great, especially the japanese cuisine at Blossoms, the sashimi was not fresh at all. Overall, for the price of this hotel I was expecting it to be a bit more updated after the "renovation", but the staff was wonderful and everything was taken care of in a timely manner.

Better watch this Westin

I stayed at this hotel April 2009. I have stayed in this hotel 10 times but this is the first as a Westin. It was a Wyndham 3 or 4 years ago. It is a mere shadow of its former self. It has doubled in price with no added value. It has security issues at the pool, casino and hotel areas. It is not a typical Westin hotel. The rooms smell of mildew. The pool area is a mess with no help or waitresses. The business center is nothing but a Mac computer with credit card reader. The airlines in Aruba do not accept pre-run boarding passes so save your 20.00. There are Arubans running up from the beach and jumping in the pool area and sitting on everyones loungers. The restaurants are marginal at best except for Pago which is very over priced. Two meals could not be eaten. The casino is unchanged but very tight. The worse thing about this hotel is that you must get thru the airport to get home. This is a three hour ordeal unmatched anywhere I have travelled. The Wyndham was one of the best run hotels on the island. It is now about rated 6th. I will never return to this hotel.

This is our favority hotel in Aruba....our room was lovely...

We stayed for 6 nights (2-8 Sept) in an Ocean View room, on the 11th Floor & was even numbered. No issues. Views & sunsets from the balcony were magnificant. We decided against All-Inclusive & we felt it was a wise choice for us. We got to experience other eating places & get "out and about" from our hotel. There are cheaper eating places than the Westin if you're worried about the costs. The food was very good everywhere we ate. (Salt & Pepper, Fishes "N More, Gilligan's). We felt breakfast next door at Gilligan's at the Radisson was a good choice as its outdoors & near the beach. Take a walk along the path near the beach & see what "special dining offers" the other resorts have. Take a trip into town on the local inexpensive bus and go the the 2 large supermarkets just before you reach town. Stock up on beverages, water, fruit & snacks as a cheaper alternative. Buy a cheap foam esky for $ rather than pay $ pn for a small fridge. STAY clear of the mini-bar as it has sensors. Enjoy happy hour (1hr) at the poolside bar, then go to Gilligan's (5-7pm) for their happy hour, then go to the pier. The beach is fantastic, clean, clear & no seeweed. We didn't reserve the beach huts but took our chances & had no problem getting beach lounges. Wait until after 2pm & some of the huts will be available. We included the bus transfer which took nearly 1 hour from airport to the hotel, however we got to see the town & other resorts. Try and avoid the 8am departure as the bus picks you up at 5am (airport 15 mins away). Buy duty free in town, not at airport.
