This used to be the only large tourist-class hotel in Malacca for a long time, which was one of the reasons why I resisted staying there for so long, but, on a impulse trip and not wanting to pay extra for its main competitor (The Equatorial), I finally booked a room.
This large hotel is conveniently located. It is 5 minutes from the only shopping mall in Malacca (Mahkota Parade) and about 10 minutes from the main historical sights. The hotel grounds lull you into thinking that you have booked into a large-scale condominium. There are many blocks surrounding the three free-form swimming pools. The environment is relatively quiet and pleasant, although nondescript.
Like Riviera Bay, this is an all-suite hotel, and rooms had a living room, kitchenette and sink, and a separate bedroom. The rooms looked somewhat rundown, but were largely functional. The tap in the sink, though, let out fearful screeches when used it. The rooms looked inward, which was good, as the hotel is along a major highway and the sound of midnight hell riders can be quite noisy. Again, there was only a shower and a snowy TV.
Unfortunately, I can't say much about the food, as the hotel is so conveniently located that we ate out for every meal. Mahkota Parade has a large supermarket and a variety of food options. Just 6 minutes away is a local restaurant that serves seafood and local dishes at reasonable rates.
The best thing about this place is its location and its reasonable level of comfort. If you book it at a promotional price, it is a good accommodation option.
