Holiday Inn Express was a disappointment

This hotel was a big disappointment and not a "good buy." After staying at several Holiday Inn Express hotels, I expected this visit to be great. It was not. The only thing "good" about this hotel is the breakfast food. The breakfast room was too small and so crowded with people, you couldn't get through, let alone find a seat. The lobby was tiny and always filled with people, definitely not a welcoming place. The room we stayed in was poorly furnished and small. There was no fridge or microwave; you have to pay extra for that! The tv was supposed to have about 30 channels. The first 18 only showed wavy lines, five of the other 12 channels were shopping channels, and three channels were pay-per-view. That may be ok in the summer, but when it gets dark at five, that leaves a long time to have nothing to do in the room. The indoor pool was so tiny, we didn't even bother. Also, there was no guest laundry. We drove for three days to get there and had to drive for three days to get back, and with no town of any size for 60 miles, we needed somewhere to get our clothes washed (our stay here was four nights.) If I hadn't already paid for the rooms (I rented 2 for us), I would have left and gone to another hotel. This hotel experience ruined our Grand Canyon stay. I was never so glad to check out of a place and move on. Next time I will stay at the other big chain hotel there. We checked it out and found it much nicer, for about the same price. I will not trust HI Express to be a good choice in the future.

A little bit expensive for the price

The room was ok, kind of clean but the toilet seat is old. It should be changed. The breakfast was ok.

No problems

Everything you'd expect from a Holiday Inn Express. Basic service, good price. Comfy bed. Cable TV. Not smoky. The pool with attached hot tub was a big bonus. The hotel was about a 5 min drive to the Grand Canyon gate, another 5-10 min to Grand Canyon Village. If nothing else, Holiday Inn Express is at least a consistent franchise.

Wonderful choice for a stay at the Grand Canyon!

The staff were extremely friendly and efficient at check in. Our room was hands down one of the largest I've had in this price range and the bed was extremely comfortable. The hotel is located next to just about everything you would need: about five minutes to the rim of the canyon, about two minutes to the airport for a helicopter tour (extremely recommended!!!) and close to restaurants, shops and the IMAX. The breakfast too was brilliant. We avoided most of the crowd by going at 9:00 though the staff were pretty quick to shut down the one side of the breakfast room about this time. The other side they keep open later (the food is the same on both sides). As has been mentioned in some of the other reviews the breakfast room is definitely too small for the number of people using it so be prepared! The pool and hot tub were nice as the first day we visited the canyon the temperature was hovering around freezing. A nice hot soak at the end of the day was very welcome! : ) Overall, the hotel was superb value for money and I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. I would say that it has to be one of the best deals in the Grand Canyon area.

Good location - good breakfast

There aren't any cheap hotels when you see the Grand Canyon. But this was a reasonably good deal for the location and the comparable amenities. It's in the closest "town" to the national park without being in the park, but it's still about a 5-10 minute drive to get to the South Rim. There are several restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. But no need to go out for breakfast... Other than being a bit crowded, the breakfast at the hotel was GREAT! We were able to be at canyon for the sunrise, hike around for a while, then come back for breakfast and a nap before checkout time. Our bed was a little soft, but still very comfortable.
