The Norfolk Arms Hotel is situated right across the street from Arundel Castle which looms large over the quaint but charming village of Arundel. Like the castle, the hotel also has its history. It was built as an old Georgian coaching inn. I just loved the street on which it is located, with an antique shop and a book shop round the corner. Spend your day just browsing the stores or walking the streets. The best part is to wake up on a foggy morning, and open your windows, to see the mighty castle sitting atop a hill. Make sure to ask for a room overlooking the castle. My room had a tiny bay window, where I sat and sketched the scenery.
The staff are very friendly and incredibly gracious, and the food is excellent. I spent my days exploring the castle and relaxing walks on heaths behind the castle, and alongside the river Arun. But wherever you are, make sure to return in time for English tea, with hot scones baked to perfection, served with fresh clotted cream.
The hotel itself has a 200 year history. What I loved about the place is the way it has maintained its traditional charms and combined them with modern facilities.
