nice hotel, great location, awful mattresses

The hotel is conveniently located behind the Kyoto Train Station. This was great. The staff was pleasant and the concierge and reception desk were very helpful with our daily plans. We had breakfast included in our stay and the buffet was pretty good. Get the 1-day or 2-day tourist bus pass to see the sights. The map's a little tricky until you get the hang of it and then it's pretty easy to figure out what bus to catch to get from place to place. The beds however were awful. The pillows were nice but the mattresses were the cheapest that could be bought.

New Miyako Hotel

Conveniently located directly across the street from the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) station, it is in a great location. It is within walking distance of many temples and other interesting places. The hotel has over 700 rooms, many restaurants, bars, several retail shops, a coffee shop and a beauty salon. Rooms all have toiletries, coffee/tea maker, refrigerator, hair dryer, TV and trouser press. I liked this hotel for its location, it was a very convenient base for exploring Kyoto and the surrounding area.
