Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa

The Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa is breathtaking in every regard. Tastefully designed with Native American spirituality and tradition in mind, I truly get a feeling of calm and reverence by just driving onto the property. Living in the Phoenix area has allowed me to visit this exquisite property on several occasions. I simply cannot overstate my utter delight in the accommodations, the atmosphere, the service, and the amenities. The Wild Horse Pass is an easy 11 mile drive from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport and well worth whatever distance you’ve had to travel to get there!

This resort offers a unique cultural experience unlike most others in the country, if not the world. The designers have incorporated the culture of the indigenous Pima and Maricopa Indian tribes into every detail of the property. All entrances face east. This is an important spiritual detail designed to honor the heritage of the Pima and Maricopa people who are known to greet the rising sun. A 2.5 mile replica of the Gila River winds throughout the property and was created to represent the original life-source of the community. The resort was named after the 1500 wild horses that have called this area home for over 500 years.

The rooms are lovely. Each room has a balcony. Deluxe rooms have a balcony facing northeast in order to greet the sun! The separate bath and shower add an element of decadence. Each room is wired with high speed internet, has Nintendo, two phone lines and cordless phones. During the off season, the rate for a standard room is $160/night. It goes as high as $380/night during peak season.

The resort boasts a number of activities to entertain the whole family. The pool has a waterslide and a jacuzzi. There are two tennis courts; as well as two 18-hole golf courses. The courses are breathtaking. In addition to some seriously fast greens, be prepared for some seriously steep green fees! During the off season, the rates are $55. While the peak season rates are a healthy $145. Golfing in Phoenix is certainly plentiful, but nobody said it was cheap!! The resort maintains hiking trails, an equestrian center and offers boat rides. Don’t miss the Aji spa. Aji is the Pima word for sanctuary; and this feeling is captured throughout. I’ve had a number of treatments at the facility, and each time I promise myself that I’ll return sooner! This place oozes tranquility!! In exchange for any service, you get an all day pass at the facility. So, plan wisely; pack your sunscreen and your favorite magazine, and prepare to be pampered!!

I couldn’t give a higher recommendation. The words "Resort & Spa" are in the name so don’t make reservations here if you don’t like to spend money. If you’re looking for a relaxing time in a beautiful setting, this is for you. I hope you enjoy the experience as much as I have.
