The NH Maastricht is part of the national hotel chain. Its location is not ideal, being in the middle of the vast MECC complex on the N278 out of Maastricht (about a 25-minute walk from the town centre, follow signs for the MECC).
However, the staff are very friendly and professional, as you would expect. The rooms are very clean with tea and coffee provided free and a minibar (plus price guide) also available. There is satellite TV with over 20 channels.
There is a fitness gym and sauna available at the hotel, but these, unfortunately, are not free (nor are they particularly cheap). The bar and restaurant are standard mid-high-range hotel fare, expensive but more than edible, yet the bar especially manages to somehow find an almost intimate atmosphere.
Be aware of the local city tax of 4.14 euros per night (as of Sept 2003) - not much, but still an annoyance. You will not be notified of this when you register, only when you leave.
As with any hotel that is part of a national chain, the NH struggles to find an identity and charm. But you get what you pay for, and if comfort, cleanliness, and cable TV are your thing, then this hotel would be worth a visit.
