The Reception area has a very warm, wood burning fire. Checking in was not a problem and the porter insisted on helping us with our luggage. X signed in first and he managed to ?score? a room in the ?new wing? of the hotel (which was added in the early 1920?s). I, on the other hand, was given a 4th floor, corner room in the ?old? wing.
As the porter and I exited the elevator and made our way onto the foyer, from which branched off and outward three separate corridors.
My room was down the central corridor, but as we began to walk down the dimly lit, creaky floored hallway, I noticed that the left corridor was likewise lit and seem to be ?in use,? while the right corridor, however, was strangely dark and did not have the appearance of having been recently occupied.
For whatever reason, I asked the porter why the right corridor was dark, to which he replied ?We don?t often use the rooms in that corridor.?
Somewhat jokingly I immediately asked: ?You wouldn?t happen to have ghosts in this old hotel, would you?? And just as mysteriously, the porter answered thusly: ?I?m not allowed to say, Sir.?
Okay . . . . I?m sorry I asked.
