Great hotel for the price and location

My husband and I chose this hotel not only based on the price but for the location. We wanted to have an ocean view but also be close to the shopping. This hotel is located a short walking distance to the Marina which is where all the great shopping and dining are located. You can also walk downtown which is right off the marina. The rooms were nice, tile floors which I prefer as they seem to be cleaner, nice bathroom and private vanity area with all the essentials. The rooms also have a complimentary safe where you can put all your valuables. The three pools were very nice and clean. The main pool which also has the swim-up bar was definitely the most popular and we realized later not only for the drinks but the other two pools were absolutely freezing! Not sure why.. but if you wanted a more quiet setting to read a book or just lay and enjoy the sun, then you should head over to one of those pools. We had read reviews prior to our trip about the construction going on next door. It wasn't that bad but you could hear it more from the first pool; so keep that in mind. If you don't want to hear any construction, then this might not be for you, although we did notice that several of the hotels had construction going on while there. We would definitely stay here again as overall for the price, it was very very nice. The two downfalls.. the massage .. not the greatest and tupon checkout they were haggling over a $3 bottle of water that they say we used in our room which we didn't.. they finally deducted it from our bill. Overall good place to stay!

If you stay here, please stay in the lower section, the Beach club. Wireless internet is not available in the rooms. You have to go to the business center or the pool area. Taxi ride to the Cabo Wabo is about $6.00 and beats the walk. Hotel has an ATM and they will change money at the front desk. I played the Cabo Real golf course. $30 taxi ride, $180.00 greens fees, but its a great course. Play Cabo Del Sol also. Wave runners are $80.00 for an hour over on the beach area. Take more money than you expect. June and July are hot. Have fun like I did. Rich
Great value and location--Bad service

I really wanted to be able to strongly recommend this hotel. Afterall, you can't beat the location and value. For me though, the service was a big detractor. I received a hundred dollar food voucher which they would not fully honor when it came time to check out. I found this to be really deceptive and the primary reason for my 'do not recommend' rating.
The other negative issues--Beware there is construction next door and they work from 8-6 at least 6 days a week. Laying by the pool is not very relaxing with all the noise. Because of this, it is worth it to upgrade to a palapa beach club room which is on the opposite side of the hotel away from the construction. You can still hear some noise, but it is bearable. Also, the walls of the rooms are paper thin and you can hear every noise in the adjacent rooms.
I found the staff to be somewhat creepy. They actually seemed mad at us for going to the playa grande timeshare tour next door. I understand they don't want competition, but we were turned off when one a staff member saw us in the hallway and made a comment that we went to a competitor tour and asked what they gave us.
The rooms need a little updating but are clean. The location is walking distance to the marina. The hotel has a pacific ocean beach which is nice to walk along, but is non-swimming. Safety was emphasized and you actually can't bring any guests to the hotel after 9pm.
All in all, with the service issues and construction, we wouldn't recommend staying there now, unless the value is right for you and you plan mainly off hotel property activities.
Very noisy construction, all day 6 days a week

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Hotel is in a great location, on top of a hill. The walk to the marina isn't bad at all, 5-7 mins. Restaurants are awesome with great views, we saw whales while having breakfast one morning. Now for the bad stuff....When we checked in around 4pm, we saw and heard loud contstruction, a new hotle was being built right next door. I asked how late they worked, we were told 5pm. So went to dinner and came back at 7pm...construction still going on. We asked to be moved to the other side of the hotel, that room was full of cockroaches. To be moved again, was an $80 per night cost. We had no choice, and moved rooms again. We've contacted travelagent about this, no response yet. Not a great start to our honeymoon, but it turned out great. We will stay here again, once the new hotel next door is finished. It's not very relaxing laying by the pool or on the beach, hearing 100 construction workers building a new hotel. Stay away for at least a few months, or call the lobby and ask if the construction is done.
Construction Alert

We were aware that construction was going on next to the hotel when we booked, so we requested a room as far from the construction as possible. When we checked in on a Saturday, we were given a room uncomfortably close to the construction. Though we registered our discomfort, we were told that the major construction was over and the only work going on presently was painting and plastering. This was a lie.
As it was Saturday, we didn't become aware of the noise level until Monday when work resumed. Since we only had two days left to our stay. We decided to bite the bullet and stick it out.
The situation really deteriorated on Monday and Tuesday when we could hear constant banging that sounded a lot closer than the neighboring construction site. We were assured that there was no construction going on at the Finisterra itself, and that they had no control over the neighboring site. This was another lie.
By Tuesday PM we were at our wits end and insisted someone come up and investigate the room next to ours which seemed to be the source of the noise. I followed the Concierge as she looked into the matter. On the floor above us she discovered workmen renovating a suite right over our room. They were knocking out bathroom tile with a hammer and chisel as well as breaking down drywall.
To her credit, the noise stopped immediately. As we were leaving the next morning, there was no point in changing the room. She apologized and assured us she would speak to management about some compensation for our discomfort. This was the final lie. We received nothing.
Were it not for the noise and the lies our stay would have been pleasant though unexceptional.
