This was paradise. The hotel overlooks the beach and is built on to a 16th-century Portuguese fort. The ruins and the overgrowth are gorgeous together and make you feel like you're in a secluded jungle.
The rooms are well done with marble floors and pretty fabrics and furnishings. Again, the property has its own water filtration so you needn't worry about the water. Just relax. Every morning, you will receive a newsletter on the day's events (i.e. native dancing, wood carving, astrology, etc.).
The hotel has a couple of restaurants and shares privileges with the Taj property next door. Fortunately, you are not limited to just the Taj restaurants, there are others in easy walking distance down the road or down the beach.
The spa is not to be missed. We took advantage of this several times. Be advised, the spa will book up so plan accordingly. We did a couples massage that consisted of an hour massage, salt scrub/treatment, and a flower bath. It was VERY romantic.
Every morning there were scads of beautiful butterflies waiting for us when we walked out of our room. The property is very quiet and you can spend hours just staring out at the beach and soaking it all in.
