We chose this hotel for the beautifully advertised pool (largest in central america)and beach. The pool was under renovation the 5 days stay. It looked like it had been closed for awhile beforehand. Beach was dirty with trash and debris. Other than those two big issues, the trip was great. Staff friendly and speak "a little" english. Food was excellent local cuisine. Location is 1.5 hours from airport. We stayed at the resort the entire time and enjoyed it. Zoo was cool and the scenery coudn't have been more green and beautiful. A small tip goes along way with the locals:) They are very genuine, hardworking people!

We visited this hotel expecting to find accomadations and services that were superb. This did not happen. After traveling for aproxamately 10 hours and the last 2 1/2 hours to make it there we were hungry we were told that at the pool they were serving lunch. They only had hot dogs french fry some fresh fruits and stalled plantains chips. They had signs of hamburgers sandwiches when asked they did not served them .Once we made it to the rooms we had to call up because of the foul smell. They send a person to try to neutralized the smell.that di not work and we could not have a diferent room till 2 days later. The hotel also offered cable service the reception on the two rooms was bad, this problem was not resolve till 4 days later after complaining every day. At dinner time we went to the restaurant buffet. The food that they served was the same all seven days we stayed there, fish was so hard that I had trouble cuting it.the beef pieces of steak had lots of brissel. The hotel only offer A la CART dinnig if you pay extra and when we had no other option the food offered had to be order in the morning for that evening dinning. It was only a little better and we still had to sit in the main buffet restaurant. My family chose to travel outside the Hotel everyday and have dinner before we made it back. Its a shame that the country have lots of things to see and experince but no other option when it comes to staying in an all inclusive Hotel. I have being asked if I would go back and my answer is NO.

Barcelo Montelimar Beach Resort is a secluded hotel away from any hustle and bustle. All you hear is the ocean waves and the tropical birds. A big positive of this hotel is that it is huge - You can find a quiet place just about anywhere whether it is on a beach chair, on one of the hundreds of hammocks in the shade, or by one of the three pools. Another positive is that there is something for everyone and it is included in the all-inclusive package, including kayaks, boogie boards, mini-golf, pool games, pingpong, giant chess, beach volleyball, basketball, casino, four-wheeling (extra $), horseback riding (extra $), etc. The pool is huge and very clean. The beach was clean and the waves were big. The rooms are nice. We had a bungalow for two people. It had a king size bed which was extremely comfortable, and a seperate bathroom. The room was adequately cleaned everyday. Most channels on the TV were in Spanish. The only problems we had were occasional lizards and 1 small spider inside our room - no biggie. The lizards do not bother anyone. Also, at night there were tons of bats that you have to be careful about because they fly right past your door. They don't bother you though. Lastly, the food and variety were good. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all included, as are poolside snacks and beverages. The buffets had many of the same items each night, but many different ones as well. There is something for everyone. Vast selection of dessert too. However, there was a small variety alcoholic beverages. They had one kind of beer and seemed to only serve rum for free. No margaritas or daquiries, just pina coladas that were average. Fresh fruit and juices were excellent.

in 300Words! MUST DO-prearrange transportation with the Montiplier to and from airport .. Arrive as early as possible in the day and try to arrive weekday to avoid CROWDS at weekend Stay in the cabanas--request one in the 1 or 2 hundredsection close to everything. Housekeeping was thorough, I tipped $2 every day and at the end of our trip I left everything I did not need for the trip home ie shaving cream, shampoo, lotions,, magazines and a little extra $$etc. Do not be alarmed about a/c IF yours breaksdown--ours did--fixed promptly. The food was not typical Barcelo--very little diversity. Little food available at the pool service island and the pool grill was often out of supplies and slow. They do not servce the swim up bar well. they prefer that you drink outside of the pool or at pool bar--ie not along the edge of the pool. However, you won't go hungry and the rum based drinks were good.. The pool was clean&well maintained. Cover ups are not allowed in the pool unless they are made of nylon ??? The pool people are very serious about this.. The beach current was a little rough but the waves were fabulous!!! We "hammock" hopped after the first day to enjoy the beach and avoid the sun. You can check in flights on line but they do not have a printer to print boarding passes Cost to use internet $5/30minutes. Just like in any country most of the staff very friendly--a few were not. Dine a little later in the eveningif you prefer a more adult atmosphere. We will return in August for 3rdvisit. Trip to/from airport makes one appreciate the beauty of the Niocaraguan country but also appreciate home. Language was not a barrier for us at all. Happy Trails!
