This is an excellent resort that also provides a good value for the money. There is a lot of activities around that can be conveniently scheduled directly from the hotel. We lived in the new addition to the resort. It was a bit far away from the lobby (5 min waing) but the golf cars were coming every 5 minutes. Althouth the distance from the lobby and this kind of transportation was a bit annoying we didn't complain because the room was fantastic (except a noisy AC). The tour to Chichen Itza is a must. We had a Mayan tour guide that was increadible and took us to a real Mayan village. The food in the hotel is exceptional. They have many restaurants with different cusines and we loved almost all of them. The only thing that I was really mad at was the Olympus Tours that charged me 100 USD for the round trip from/to the airport to/from the hotel plus the driver litterally "requsted" tips. This is a rip off. A taxi would probably cost 20-25 USD one way since the hotel is only 5 mi from the airport. Don't book your transportation with Olympus tours that Travel offers!!! Other than that i highly recommend this resort.
What a place for a honeymoon

What a place! I was a bit skeptical from all the "seaaweed" reviews. We did not see any such seaweed until midway through the weeka dn it was a line along the water. People were in the water here and there. It wasnt the ideal waters people dream of but there is where the other resorts come into play. You can shuttle to the other resorts on either a 12 shuttle coming back at 4 or a 2 oclock shuttle coming back at 6 or you can take a taxi for $25 to downtown. The food was great! Some of the reviewers sound snobby when talking about the food. Being a chef, I found it to be top notch. We never waited in any lines except for the most popular Italian place but they even have an outside patio to lunge, drinka dn wait. All staff were friendly and kind and made us feel very special. The only complaint I ahve is when we tried to get internet time the front desk was not very helpful. They kept trying to send us to the other side of the resort making up excuses. Definitly would go back!
Family Vacation was GREAT!

Well we had a great time at the Moon Palace; at first they gave us a room in the new portion of the Hotel, which was very far away from the main lobby and restaurants, it was gorgeous though, but we opted for a smaller, less gorgeous room, that was closer to restaurants and pools, and were very happy with that decision, mainly because my 2-yr old daughter was with us and it would have been too much hastle to have a room far from where we would eat and play. We tried the Japanese restaurant at the Sunrise, and it was good, men do not wear shorts, because after standing in line for 15 minutes to get a pager, we were told my husband couldn't come in the restaurant 'cause he was wearing shorts (even though he looked much more polished than other men who were wearing long pants), just a tip. We tried the restaurant Caribeño, and it was OK, not great. I really can't understand how some people could've had a horrible experience at this resort, service for the most part was great, just remember that you aren't the only one the staff is trying to please, and be a little understandable, that's what I would say to those who had bad experiences. The beach did have some seaweed, but it wasn't horrible or even close to it. In my opinion this resort was great and my family and I will be back. And on a side note, if you're in Cancun definately plan on staying for at least 7 nights, specially if you plan on doing any tours, we did the Xcaret and it was awesome, totally recommend it!
Huge hotel with a big pool but not nice beach

Check-in was a nightmare, 2 hours. The rooms were clean and nice, pool is huge. All activities were packed. There was no space left in any actitivy or tour included in the passport deal. We went there during eastern week and it was full. There are two towers or hotels, make sure you know which one you are staying before you get there. Sun rice is fun and nice. The other one is more quite.
Taxi from the airport was expensive. I would suggest to arrange this in advance.
The personnel is the best, Really nice people and great service
Food was good in most of the restaurants, except the Brazilian
The hotel is not in Cancun, it is in Riviera Maya, close to the airport.
I love the fact that we could go to the Cancun Palace and stay there the entire day. Our children really enjoyed the pools in both hotels.
Nice hotel to stay, but too expensive for the value.

We returned from a week stay at the Moon Palace on April 19th. We were there on 3 days business and 4 days pleasure. We travelled with 2 toddlers. Because this trip was business we had no choice in our hotel stay but I did read a lot of reviews prior to leaving. I must say most all the medicocre reviews have it nailed. Don't get me wrong, the resort itself is quite nice, and the staff are wonderful aside from the front desk. Nothing special at check-in. We were put on the Nizuc side in the Girasol building. This building is right across from the sewage treatment plant and is quite unbearable in smell. We asked to switch rooms on the second day as sewer fumes were coming through our toilet and smelling up the entire room and making us all nauseaous. After arguing that coming in and spraying an odorizer was not going to cut it, they placed us in the Rosa building. Much better. There are about 13 restaurants between all the buildings. To be honest they are really all the same when it comes to buffet. The 4 lobby restaurants (Bugambilia's, La Gondola, Arrecifes, El Manglar )
all had pretty much the same food, quite dissapointing to be honest. We ate at Palapa Fragata which is the seafood buffet, however they serve you, its really different. They just bring you a bunch of stuff. It was pretty good. The Mexican a la carte restaurant in Nizuc Los Caporales was excellent. The Caribbean restaurant at the Grand Moon is worth the trip....excellent pineapple chicken and the music was great. No wait at all. Other than those three restaurants, the food really was not good. The hold the chair with the towel thing is definatly true. This is so ridiculous because it even says in the hotel book that this is not allowed or you will be asked to leave the pool area. What bull, no one enforces it. Day after day you walk around the pool on either side of the resort and all the chairs are taken by towels. The worst part of it is that when you go and get your towels you have towels cards that you are supposed to give them then they return them to you when you return the towels. Well they never take the cards so most of those towels on the chairs are probably just sitting around cause no one returned them. My advice is to move the towels and take the chair! Rude people all over that resort, maybe being Canadian I am used to friendly people that at least smile or say hello when they pass you.....very rare at this hotel. I suggest learning a little spanish because the maid service do not speak english and you will run into problems communicating if you leave the resort. No time share issues, the guest services desk does call you the day after arrival and tell you to come get your welcome package., This is not a time share scam. They give you a booklet (Passport to savings) That shows the tours included in your stay and you can book them there as well they give you some coupons for spa and golf. That was all. We booked through Conquest vacations and when we were dropped off at the hotel they gave us a hotel bed card to be stamped for our return shuttle to the airport. It said to meet Ricardo at Hospitality Services the next day at 5pm. I went and no one even knew who Ricardo was, they didnt hesitate on trying to sell me on outside tours though. Very pushy. Later I learned that there is a posting of shuttle times listed for your travel provider. Never did find Ricardo but I received a message the day before we left from Conquest telling me what time they were picking us up. Be careful around hospitality services, they are all over you. Certain things really irritated me at this hotel. At the palace gift shop they took my American $20 and gave me change in Pesos. They treated it like even money. They didnt always give change this way, most times I received American back, but there was one particluar instance where my husband bought some gum and all he had was $20. She gave him change in Pesos and he could clearly see in her tray that she had American. When he questioned it she quickly closed the drawer and said oh no no Pesos Pesos. They like to rip you off. Another thing that really irritated me was the smoking. There was smoking everywhere. The lobby smelled disgusting and your eyes burned. People were smoking in the pool. It was just disgusting and I was bothered mostly because my young children were around it. The tipping situation was kinda ridiculous as well. These people work very hard, there is no doubt about it but it got to the point that they stood there expecting a tip for everything. In a week we spend about $130 on tips. The water really sucks. Especially since we took a day trip to Cancun Palace and experiened the crystal blue water there. Much better over all at the Cancun Palace.
My 3 year old daughter became ill on the 3rd day. We were walking back from a cocktail reception and she threw up outside. For the next 4 days she was puking and "other" and so tired. All she wanted to do was sleep. My 2 year old daughter developed and high grade fever on the 5th day and luckily it was gone by the end of the 6th day. I was horribly ill on the 5th day. Throwing up and "other" Won't say it was the food cause who knows, didnt anything unusual and only drank bottled water dispite the safeness of the tap water. We got a bug from something and it wasnt pretty. One thing I did notice is that the restaurants outside do keep the food sitting out in the sun way to long you can tell by looking at it that it is off. e.g. guacamole, mayonaza, meats, fruit.
The staff were wonderful at going out of their way to to please our daughters when they were feeling ill as well. The fridge in the room was never stocked, we had to ask quite a few times, once they got tipped we say them more often. Maid Service was great, even turned the bed down every night. Get the chicken soup from room service, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
My opinion of this place is that it is very glutonous. If you want to eat like a pig and drink your face off with no care about the beauty of Mexico than this is the place for you.
